Chapter 1

In my past life, I was adopted by a middle-class family, while my sister, Abigail, was taken in by a wealthy one.

In the end, her high-society reputation was in ruins, while I became a top-tier architect through my own hard work.

In the end, we both got the lives we thought we wanted.

I built a career and a stable life alongside my adoptive brother, Caleb Miller.

With our adoptive parents as witnesses, we walked down the aisle.

I thought that was all I'd ever want—a stable, happy life.

I never expected to be reborn.

This time, Abigail made the exact opposite choice.

At the family matching event at the children's welfare center, she threw herself into Caleb's arms, cooing his name. Then, she took the Millers' hands and, with a triumphant, victorious look, shot me a glance. "Claire, you can have the misery of the Estes' gilded cage. I wouldn't last a second in there."

I looked at the man who was my husband in our past life, searching his face for a flicker of familiarity, but he just pulled Abigail protectively behind him.

He glared at me, his eyes like ice. "Stay away from my sister."

In the end, with her victorious gaze burning into my back, I walked toward the black Cadillac.

Abigail's words made one thing instantly clear: she'd been reborn, too.

The look on her face—pure certainty—confirmed it.

"Please get in the car, Miss."

The Estes family had only sent a driver.

It had been the same in my past life. When the director of the welfare center let us choose, Abigail had made her decision faster than I did.

It had all happened so suddenly.

Back then, she had been arrogant. "I refuse to live a difficult, ordinary life. Claire, that struggle is all yours."

Later, she got her wish and lived a life of luxury, but the smiles rarely reached her eyes.

I slid into the sleek Cadillac.

As the city blurred past, the driver briefed me on the Estes family.

"Have you memorized it all?"

His sharp eyes scrutinized me through the rearview mirror.

"I have."

The car soon entered the Estes' estate.

I followed the driver into the villa, which was as luxurious as a modern art museum.

"Ma'am, I've brought her."

The beautiful woman sitting on the sofa drinking coffee looked up, her gaze sweeping over me. She beckoned. "Come here."

"What's your name?"

"Claire."

The director of the welfare center had named me Claire.

It meant brightness and distinction.

The woman nodded. "Very good. From now on, you will be called Claire Estes."

"Butler, take her upstairs."

"Yes, ma'am."

I followed the butler, step by step, up the floating staircase.

The handrail was smooth obsidian, the floor seamless Italian marble.

Every detail exuded an air of quiet, ultimate luxury.

But I wasn't impressed. In my past life, I had earned all of this on my own.

The butler glanced back at me, a flicker of surprise in his eyes at my composure.

He pushed open a door, and a huge room, like an art gallery, appeared before me. "Miss, this will be your room from now on."

"Rest for a while. I will be back shortly."

With that, the butler left.

I stepped inside, my eyes scanning the room.

The accommodations were lavish; the Estes family clearly hadn't spared any expense on their new daughter.

The room and its separate walk-in closet were filled with the exquisite luxury of high society.

A thrill shot through me.

In my past life, without a powerful family backing me, I’d had to claw my way up to achieve this kind of luxury.

Now, as a member of the Estes family, I was determined to leverage their resources to build an even more spectacular future.
