After My Mate Rejected Me for His Pregnant Mistress

9.5 / 10.0
The sacred bond shattered at 10:14 PM on a Tuesday. Standing in a modest dress before three hundred watching wolves, I was publicly discarded by Vance. His pregnant mistress, Kimber, stood nearby, wearing the expensive moonstone pendant Vance claimed the pack treasury couldn't afford. That lie cost our daughter her life when he refused to buy her wolfsbane fever antidote. Now, with a ledger of his financial crimes pressed to my ribs, I will expose every deception he used to destroy us.

After My Mate Rejected Me for His Pregnant Mistress Chapter 1

The bond broke at 10:14 on a Tuesday night, in front of three hundred wolves who had come to watch me be discarded.

I stood at the high table beside Vance in the gown Lucy had helped me select — modest, forgettable, the kind of dress a weak-blooded Luna was expected to wear. The leather-bound ledger pressed against my ribs inside my coat. I had memorized every line. Every number. Every lie.

Kimber's scent was already threaded through Vance's. It had been for years. Tonight it was thicker, deliberate, a claim made visible through pheromones alone. I could smell the moonstone pendant at her throat before I saw it — the one he bought her the month he told me the pack treasury was empty, the month he let our daughter burn with wolfsbane fever because an antidote cost too much.

I pressed my thumb against the inside of my wrist. The small bone there. The pulse.

Vance rose. The hall went quiet.

He did not look at me. He looked at the assembled pack — his warriors, his elders, the ranked wolves who had spent six years watching him starve me of everything but the work that kept them comfortable. His jaw was set. His shoulders square. He had practiced this.

"I, Vance Larson, Alpha of Silverfang," he said, his voice carrying the Alpha tone even in formal speech, "reject you, Margot Foster, as my mate and Luna."

The mark on my neck turned ice-cold.

It happened faster than I expected. One moment the bond was there — a thin, threadbare thing I had stopped reaching for years ago but that still tethered me to him at the base of my skull. The next moment it was gone. Not broken. Severed. The difference felt like the difference between a door closing and a door being ripped off its hinges.

Pain ripped through my body. Not emotional. Biological. The bond tearing itself out of my nervous system in real time, every synapse that had been rerouted to accommodate his presence suddenly firing into empty space. My vision whited out at the edges. My knees buckled. I went down hard, one palm flat against the floor, the other still pressed to my wrist.

The hall was silent. No one moved toward me. No one gasped. They had come to watch this.

I could hear my own breathing. Shallow. Too fast. I forced it slower.

Behind Vance, Kimber Warren stepped forward. She wore a gown that clung to the curve of her belly — not far along, but visible, deliberate, the visual argument made before she said a word. The moonstone pendant caught the light. She placed one hand on Vance's shoulder. Possessive. Gentle. The widow who had earned her place through years of quiet suffering, finally recognized.

The pack elders rose as one.

"By the authority vested in this pack's council," the head elder announced, his voice formal and rehearsed, "we recognize Kimber Warren as the incoming Luna of Silverfang, chosen by our Alpha and blessed by bloodline."

Vance turned to me then. His eyes were flat. Not angry. Not guilty. Just done.

"You will vacate the pack house by dawn," he said, and this time the Alpha tone was unmistakable — a command designed to enforce compliance at the biological level, to override conscious resistance and force my body to obey. "You will take nothing that belongs to this pack. No funds. No records. No property."

He paused.

"Not even Ella."

The Alpha tone crashed into me like a wave. My muscles moved without permission, my body already orienting toward the door, toward compliance, toward the shape of the command. For a half-second I felt myself begin to stand, to walk, to leave my daughter behind because an Alpha had told me to.

Then my wolf moved.

Not a shift. Not a sound. Just a single, furious pulse from somewhere deep inside my chest — a wall of resistance that slammed into the compulsion and stopped it cold. I felt it like a hand pressed flat against my sternum from the inside. Immovable. Absolute.

The command broke against it.

I breathed.

I pressed my thumb to my wrist.

I straightened from my knee.

The hall's silence changed. It had been pity. Now it was bewilderment. Confusion. A Luna on her knees was expected. A Luna standing after an Alpha-toned command was not.

Vance's jaw tightened. I knew that tell. His Beta, Silas Morrow, knew it too — I saw Silas shift his weight, half a step back, reading the incoming escalation.

Vance had not planned for me to stand.

I reached inside my coat. My fingers closed around the ledger. The leather was warm from my body heat. I pulled it out slowly, deliberately, and held it at my side.

"No," I said.

My voice was quiet. Steady. It did not shake.

Vance stared at me. Behind him, Kimber's hand tightened on his shoulder. The elders exchanged glances.

"No," I said again. "I will not leave Ella. And before I leave this hall, you will hear what I have to say."

I opened the ledger to the page I had marked.

The page with the moonstone pendant. The page with the blank line where Ella's antidote should have been.

The page that would cost him everything.
