After My Lover Destroyed My Voice, I Destroyed His Life
Chapter 1
To ensure Maisy would triumph in the school singing competition, my boyfriend locked me in a basement.
"Anastasia," he said, his expression torn, "your family's comfortable enough to send you to any school."
"But Maisy’s situation is different. This competition is her only shot to continue her music career."
That day, I was disqualified for not showing up, while Maisy claimed the victory she desperately wanted.
Later, Brody knelt before me, tears in his eyes, pleading for my forgiveness.
I relented, deciding to give him another chance.
But never could I have predicted he'd become even more ruthless.
To secure Maisy a place in a prestigious music academy abroad, he forced me to drink throat-numbing poison on my birthday, leaving me utterly voiceless.
---
"I was wrong, Brody, please let me go..."
"I can't afford to let the opportunity slip by again..."
Tomorrow is the music competition. Winning could be my ticket to the Royal Academy of Music for graduate studies.
I've practiced endlessly, yearning to fulfill my dream and live up to my parents' hopes for me.
But standing on the verge of success, my boyfriend wants to derail my path for his beloved.
With the competition looming, he once again restrained me, just so his sweetheart could triumph.
I knew Brody was partial, but never fathomed he'd go so far.
Swallowing my pride, I pleaded with Brody.
His words were piercingly cold.
"This competition means everything to Maisy. Can't you give her this chance? When will you stop being so selfish?"
His words made our years-long relationship seem utterly surreal.
Though I couldn't laugh, tears freely fell down my cheeks.
"I can't let you be the obstacle in her way."
Brody looked at me with icy resolve, without the slightest regret.
Holding back my tears, I implored, "You know singing is my greatest passion. You know the effort I’ve poured into this. You know it's my parents' final wish..."
Brody's body went rigid, his face showed a momentary flicker of doubt.
"The academy has always been my dream, the ultimate goal of my life..."
Seeing the hesitation in his eyes, I seized the chance:
"Brody, I promise, if you let me go this time, I won't hold a grudge against anything you and Maisy do. I'll forgive all your past mistakes..."
"Or I could vanish from your lives; I’ll leave..."
Perhaps my earnestness was too palpable; hesitation subtly appeared on his face.
Just then, Maisy's call interrupted.
"Brody, the competition is tomorrow, and I'm anxious. With Anastasia competing, I don't stand a chance... Maybe I should just quit."
"Do you think I deserve happiness... I finally have the opportunity to get into my dream school, but now it feels hopeless..."
Maisy's voice over the phone was trembling, as though she was deeply wronged.
Sympathy flickered in Brody's eyes, his tone gentle as he reassured her.
"Don't worry. As long as I'm here, nothing will stop you. Just focus on tomorrow’s competition. Leave the rest to me..."
After hanging up, Brody met my eyes with renewed detachment.
A chill seeped into the room. Anxiety gripped my heart.
I trembled, my voice frail with fear.
"Brody, please, don't do this to me."
Bound tightly, unable to move, I could only plead tirelessly.
If I lose my voice, I’ll never sing again.
Seeing my tears, Brody looked away, his voice unsteady.
"I'm sorry, Maisy’s future is on the line."
"Don't worry, I'll always care for you, love you..."
"You may lose your voice, but you'll have me. Maisy’s different; you can't block her path."
