Chapter 11

Was she just walking into the lion's den? Carmen Pierce pressed her lips together, steadying herself before smiling at Adalynn Sanders. "Adalynn, I'm going to join Jayden now."

Adalynn nodded with a bright smile. "Go on, dear, go on."

Carmen moved gracefully toward Jayden Montgomery. Outwardly calm and composed, inside, she was a bundle of nerves. Every step felt like walking on pins and needles.

As Adalynn watched Carmen walk away, she excitedly remarked to the maid beside her, "I'm so thrilled; it's like a flower blooming after a long winter."

Jayden watched as Carmen approached, his gaze intense and unwavering. She looked different from last night's mesmerizing allure. Today, she wore a modest white Victorian-style dress that highlighted her elegance. Her skin was porcelain smooth, her features delicate and captivating, exuding a refined grace. Sweet yet sophisticated, she was irresistible.

But only he knew the wild side hidden beneath her calm exterior and how much he adored her. He’d waited so long, and now he yearned to have her completely.

He couldn't help swallowing. As Carmen approached, her eyes were downcast, but she felt Jayden's unwavering gaze on her. Was he upset because she had pretended to be his girlfriend?

When Carmen finally reached Jayden, she lifted her head to meet his gaze, ready to explain. Instead, he spoke first in his deep, alluring voice: "Did you bring your ID?"

From her perspective, Carmen couldn't help but notice Jayden's striking yet stern face. His mature masculinity was an unspoken temptation. She thought she saw a mysterious glint in his eyes.

After a moment, she furrowed her brow and asked, "Why would I need my ID?"

Suddenly, Jayden reached out and pulled Carmen into an embrace. Their bodies were close, breathing in sync, hearts beating as one. He glanced at the enticing curve of her collarbone and murmured softly, "We could register for marriage right now, if you're up for it."

Carmen was taken aback. She vividly remembered how, at the law firm before, he hadn’t even looked her way. And now, he was suggesting they get married?

Jayden leaned closer, his lips brushing against her ear as he whispered, "If you’re not interested, I won’t force you."

"No! I want to!" Carmen quickly nodded, snapping back to reality. Just an hour ago, she'd been scheming to capture his attention. She never imagined that an hour later, Jayden would make this move. Was this a proposal?

Jayden drove Carmen back to her place to get her ID. As she walked into the quaint, somewhat worn apartment building, his eyes darkened briefly with thought. Such a delicate woman deserved better.

Ten minutes later, Carmen returned to the car with her ID in hand, her demeanor a mix of tension and distance. "I've got it." She was still somewhat dazed, as if she'd stumbled upon an unexpected jackpot. Her plan to catch his eye had barely begun, and now they were heading off to get their marriage certificate?

If the city’s socialites knew how easily Jayden could be won over, they’d probably be kicking themselves!

Jayden nodded casually, "Good."

The Maybach sped toward the registrar's office. During the procedure, the staff couldn't help but steal glances at the pair. The wealthiest, most handsome man marrying the most beautiful woman would certainly be sensational news if it got out.

As the staff considered leaking the story to the media, Jayden's cold, commanding voice cut in, "I don’t want anyone to know about our marriage."

His words were polished and detached, yet they carried an authority that demanded compliance. No one dared defy him.

Carmen had no objections either. Marrying Jayden was enough of a dream come true—there was no need for publicity.

After completing the paperwork, Carmen and Jayden walked out of the registry together.

“Jayden, I…” Carmen began, intending to mention she had an appointment to attend, but Jayden handed her a set of keys. "This is for Seaview Residences. You and your sister can move in."

Carmen looked at Jayden in surprise. Seaview Residences was the most luxurious seaside villa community in town. Buying a villa there cost millions, and money alone couldn’t guarantee one. And Jayden was just giving her one?

Moreover, she had a distinct feeling he'd prepared those keys in advance.

Jayden added nonchalantly, “Don’t worry, I won't bother you unless absolutely necessary.”

Carmen hesitated only briefly before accepting the keys. "Thank you." She wasn’t one to play coy. Since he was now her husband, living in his villa wasn’t a big deal.

Jayden glanced down, noticing the glint of delight in Carmen’s captivating eyes, reminding him of the vibrant girl from two years ago. A small smile tugged at his lips. "We’re married; no need for formalities."

The word "married" was spoken softly, yet Carmen's cheeks flushed bright red.

So she was now a married woman?

In the following days, Carmen spent time at the hospital with her sister, Natalie. She didn’t see Jayden during that time, and neither sought the other out. If it weren’t for the marriage certificate in her bag, she might have thought the whole marriage registration was a dream.

When Natalie was discharged, Carmen took her directly to Seaview Residences.

“Carmen, why did you bring me here?” Natalie asked, amazed as she took in the luxurious surroundings.

Before Carmen could answer, a mocking voice interrupted, "Well, if it isn't the Pierce sisters. What are you doing here?"

Carmen turned to see two impeccably dressed figures—Ellianna Moreno and Lilly Hicks.

Lilly looked at Carmen with a scrutinizing gaze. "Carmen, this place is Seaview Residences, worth millions. It’s not where you two sisters belong."

Seaview Residences had been developed three years ago, renowned for its prime location and exceptional amenities. Properties sold out within hours on the first day of pre-sale, with some unable to buy even with money.

Living here was a symbol of high status.

Ellianna, who shared her new home here with Bo Montgomery, eyed the sisters dismissively but maintained a facade of graciousness. "Lilly, don’t be so harsh. Maybe Carmen and her sister are just here to admire the place. After all, not just anyone can live at Seaview."

Lilly chimed in, "You're right, Ellianna. Not even all wealthy people could buy a place here, let alone those who've gone bankrupt."

Then she deliberately raised her voice. "Ellianna, where’s your new home with Bo?"

Ellianna responded with a sugary smile, "It’s in Building Four, Unit Two. The western balcony faces the ocean, perfect for watching the sunset with Bo. It's so romantic."

The words dripped with an air of superiority.

Natalie’s face paled as she listened to their jibes.

Just as she made a move to leave with Carmen, Carmen pulled out a set of keys from her bag, smiling brightly. "It doesn’t matter if I can't buy it. My husband can."

Ellianna's smile faltered upon seeing the distinctive keys. The keys to Seaview Residences were uniquely designed—there was no mistaking them. No other properties could have the same keys.

So this woman lived here too? Did some wealthy older man buy her a place?

Natalie turned to her sister, wide-eyed. In the past few days, Carmen had mostly been with her in the hospital, apart from meeting with the lawyer about Natalie’s divorce. How could she suddenly be married?

"You’re married?" Lilly's voice was filled with skepticism as she looked at Carmen. If Carmen was truly married, that meant she wasn’t a rival for Jayden's attention.

The thought brightened Lilly’s mood inexplicably. But even so, she didn’t plan to let Carmen off easily.

Carmen shot Ellianna and Lilly a cold look, exuding an innate confidence and command. "Whether I’m married or not doesn’t concern you, does it?"

Lilly pressed on, "Just because you have a set of keys doesn't mean you live at Seaview. Can you tell us which building you’re in?"

Carmen realized she had forgotten to ask Jayden for their specific address.

Ellianna patronizingly chimed in, "Lilly, maybe Carmen just forgot to ask her husband the details, being newlyweds and all. Why don't you give him a call, Carmen, to find out where you live?"

Her words feigned concern but were full of condescension, as if eagerly anticipating a show.

Carmen frowned at their smug expressions. In her haste, she hadn't thought to get Jayden's phone number or even connect on WhatsApp. It was rather ironic, being newlyweds yet lacking her husband's contact information.

"Don’t push it!" Natalie stepped forward, standing protectively in front of Carmen. Despite her frail appearance, her eyes shone with fierce determination. They could bully her, but no one would bully her sister!

Yet Lilly continued.
