After My Alpha Humiliated Me, I Awakened as Royalty

At 11:47 on a Thursday night, my sacred mate mark went entirely cold. In front of thirty silent Ashvale Pack wolves, my Alpha, Dallas, chose a carved bone artifact over our three-year bond. He ruthlessly severed our connection on the high platform for a shortcut to power. Yet, as my public humiliation seals our end, a dormant, royal bloodline begins to stir deep within my veins, changing everything.

Chapter 1

The bond broke at 11:47 on a Thursday night.

I felt it before Dallas finished the last word. The mate mark on the left side of my neck—the one he'd pressed his teeth into three years ago in front of his pack, the one I'd touched every morning since like a compass—went cold. Not gradually. All at once, like a door slamming shut in an empty room.

I was standing in the great hall of the Ashvale Pack house. Thirty wolves behind me, every one of them silent. Dallas stood on the raised platform where he gave pack announcements, and in his right hand he held a carved piece of bone no longer than my forearm. He'd found it in the vault that afternoon. He'd come to me first, actually—eyes bright, voice tight with the specific excitement of a man who believes he's finally found his shortcut. *It's an ancient Alpha relic, Vivian. Lycan-level power, locked in the bloodline of whoever carries it.*

I'd looked at the carving and felt something cold move through me that had nothing to do with the bone itself.

Now he was speaking the formal words.

"I, Dallas Carr, Alpha of the Ashvale Pack, reject you, Vivian Bradley, Omega of the Ashvale Pack, as my mate."

The cold spread from my neck down my spine. My ribs—

Something hit me from the inside. Not a blow. A shattering. Like a fist slamming against a sealed door in the deepest part of my chest. Two of my ribs cracked with a sound I felt rather than heard, and I folded forward at the waist, one hand going to the stone floor before I could stop it.

No one moved to catch me.

From somewhere very far below the pain, a voice I had never heard before said, clearly and without inflection: *He will regret this.*

My wolf. For the first and only time, before going silent again like a candle snuffed in a sealed room.

I pressed my palm flat against the cold stone and pushed myself upright. My legs shook. My ribs screamed. I kept my face still.

Dallas was already stepping down from the platform, the bone carving tucked under his arm like a prize. He didn't look at me.

None of them did.

---

I found out about the pendant an hour later.

I went back to the Alpha suite because my healer's kit was there. I needed to wrap my ribs before the internal bleeding got worse, and I was not going to ask anyone in that hall for help. The suite door was unlocked. I pushed it open.

Amanda was sitting up in Dallas's bed, the sheet pooled at her waist, wearing my mother's silver pendant at the hollow of her throat.

She looked at me the way you look at someone who has arrived at the wrong party.

Dallas was behind me before I could speak. I felt his Alpha tone hit me like a hand pressing down on the back of my neck—involuntary, biological, the kind of command that bypasses thought entirely.

"Kneel."

My knees bent. I locked them. It cost me something I don't have a name for, fighting that tone with two cracked ribs and a severed bond still bleeding through my chest, but I stayed standing.

Amanda reached up without hurry, unclasped the pendant's chain, and dropped it into the lit fireplace beside the bed. She held my gaze the entire time.

The silver caught. Melted. Gone.

I did not scream. I did not beg. I turned around and walked out.

---

In the morning I stood in the great hall again and spoke my own formal words.

"I, Vivian Bradley, accept the rejection of Dallas Carr, Alpha of the Ashvale Pack."

Dallas waved a hand toward his Beta to handle the settlement. Standard Omega severance—a small sum, a week's food allocation, escort to the pack border.

"I want the eastern territory," I said.

Silence. Then a few muffled sounds that were almost laughter.

The eastern territory was forty acres of windswept scrubland on the pack's outer boundary. Rocky soil. No structures. No water source anyone had bothered to map. Dallas had mentioned it twice in five years, both times as an example of worthless land.

"Fine," he said, and smiled like I'd just asked for the broken chair in the storage room.

I had memorized the boundary coordinates two years ago, during a routine administrative audit I'd run alone because Dallas couldn't be bothered. I knew exactly what sat on the eastern edge of that territory. Dallas did not.

I walked out of the Ashvale Pack house with the braided cord on my left wrist where my mother's pendant used to rest at night, the coordinates locked behind my eyes, and nothing else.

---

Three days later, a lean man in a grey jacket found me on the eastern boundary and offered me a water skin without a word. We stood in the wind for ten full minutes before he spoke.

"Your scent carries the bloodline signature of Lycan King Marvin's lost daughter," he said. "I am his Beta. He has been searching for twenty-five years."

I asked him three questions. He answered each one without softening a syllable.

I handed back the water skin and said, "When do we leave?"
