After His Amnesia, I Severed Our Mate Bond
Chapter 2
I closed the door to the Alpha’s quarters and made my way to the study. The air felt heavier than usual, as if the weight of the pack’s expectations still lingered in the halls, even now.
Evander’s bookcase stood tall and imposing, filled with volumes on pack history, leadership, and strategy. He was meticulous about his reading habits, always pulling out a book and placing it on the right side of the middle shelf when he was done. My fingers brushed over the spines until I found the bulky notebook I was looking for. I opened it, the pages filled with my thoughts, my secrets, my heart.
*October 16, 2014: The Alpha’s son, Evander, played the violin at the academy’s welcome ceremony. He was mesmerizing. I think I like him.*
The entries were a chronicle of my devotion to him, a love that had once felt unshakable. Tucked between the pages was an ultrasound image, a memory of what could have been.
*January 19, 2023: Evander and I are going to have a pup. I can’t wait to tell him. He’s always talked about wanting an heir to the Silver Moon Pack.*
*January 20, 2023: Evander didn’t come home last night. I thought about using the mind link to tell him about the pregnancy, but I wanted to see his face when I shared the news. He’ll be thrilled.*
*January 21, 2023: Evander said he was on a patrol mission and forgot to tell me. I’ll tell him when he gets back.*
*January 22, 2023: I saw Zayla’s post on the pack’s communication board. Evander was with her. They weren’t on patrol—they were on a private retreat.*
*January 23, 2023: Zayla mind-linked me. She said her bond is officially severed and she wants Evander back. But she’s the one who left him to run off with another pack years ago. Why is she coming back now? I never took him from her, so how can I give him back? The stress made me feel ill, so I went to the healer. She told me to stay calm. It’s all so frustrating.*
*February 24, 2023: Zayla announced her bond dissolution is final, and Evander is going to celebrate with her. My stomach hurt again, and I felt nauseous. I drank a cup of calming tea—bitter, but safe for the pup.*
*February 26, 2023: Evander told me he had to attend a pack meeting and wouldn’t be home that night. But I knew he was going to see Zayla. My dear pup, you might not have a father. I can’t compete with his first mate.*
*February 27, 2023: Evander was injured in a rogue attack late last night. He woke up today remembering everyone—except me. I’ve lost hope.*
I closed the notebook and placed it back on the right side of the middle shelf, where he’d find it eventually. The third drawer of his desk held some of my personal belongings. I slipped the medical records inside and locked it, the key cold in my hand.
Everything toxic needed to end—Zayla, Evander, even his pretentious parents, who had always looked down on me. Alphas and Lunas might command respect, but they weren’t immune to their own flaws. I wasn’t holding out hope for him to change. But once I left, I wasn’t going to let them forget what they’d lost.
