Chapter 6

Alexander PO

I couldn't believe my eyes when I started hearing about Marcus and Sophia Perfume in the market, a brand that had just been introduced. It was already trending, with investors pouring their money into it.

I paused for a moment at the office.

“Isn't this Sophia Williams' former company, the company that almost went silent? How then did it rise overnight?” I asked myself.

“Well, that's not my problem. It should be theirs...”

I smiled and overlooked everything.

I decided to drive to Clara's office that afternoon.

On my way there, I spotted a car that dropped someone who looked exactly like Clara at a restaurant.

“Isn't that Clara?” I asked myself, filled with curiosity that almost consumed me.

“This is my wife. I am very sure of what I am saying.”

I nodded my head confidently.

Then I parked some distance away. Clara never told me she was going out for lunch, and why did it have to be with a man?

When I walked closer, I realized it was the same man she claimed she had left for me.

“What...?”

I held myself back.

“We just got married last week, and here she is with her boyfriend.”

I was about to step forward but stopped.

“She might deny everything.”

Instead, I brought out my phone to take a picture.

“I'm sorry, sir, this is not allowed here.”

“What do you mean? Fuck you!”

I pushed the security guard aside, causing him to fall to the ground and draw everyone's attention.

“My goodness. It is Alexander.”

Clara stood with both hands over her mouth.

I didn't even realize when my fist landed on her boyfriend's face.

“So you have been lying all this while, Clara. You told me you had nothing to do with him, yet you are having lunch with him. Not just that, he kissed your lips!”

I scolded.

“Security!” Clara called.

“What are you trying to do, Clara? Get me thrown out of this place?”

“Yes, since you are acting mentally unstable. You behave like someone who has suddenly gone insane.”

Her reply fueled my anger even more.

“What are you waiting for? Take this man out of this place.”

Clara behaved as if I wasn't her husband.

I was dragged out of the restaurant.

With speed, I drove home, pulled off my coat, and picked up a glass of wine. But while pouring it into the cup, my anger forced me to smash the glass.

“Damn! Damn...!”

I screamed loudly.

“Son, what's the problem?”

“Please stay away from this, Mother.”

I pointed at her.

“You are not looking normal. Where is your wife? She ought to have been here by now.”

She acted concerned.

“Look here, Mother. That lady is not my wife. She is a cheat, and not just a cheat but a liar as well!”

I shouted at her.

“What do you mean?” she asked.

“I think I should never have allowed Sophia to leave. I think I am now regretting my actions.”

“You don't have to say that in a hurry, son. You must understand that Sophia was never your fit. She only wanted to be seen around you.”

“She is far better than Clara.”

I was still speaking when Clara drove in.

“Here comes the liar.”

I pointed at Clara as she stepped out of the car and walked in confidently.

I grabbed her and pinned her against the wall.

“You have the guts to do that to me at the restaurant?”

I asked, tightening my grip.

“Take your hands off me before I label you a murderer. Take your hands off me, Alexander.”

She struggled to breathe.

“Stop that, Alexander! Do you want to kill her?”

I removed my hands from Clara's neck.

“Fuck you, Alexander!”

Clara glared at me.

“You think I was having something serious with him?”

“Did you just hear yourself, Clara? Even when I caught you with him?”

I shouted even louder.

“Yes. That was the young man I left for you. He only visited town for a meeting.”

“A meeting?”

My mother almost screamed.

“Is anything wrong with trying to have lunch with him? I met him there and we simply shared the same table.”

She spoke so fast.

“You are the greatest liar I have ever met. What do you take me for? A blind man, a fool, or an illiterate?”

I pointed at myself.

“Look here, Clara. I made the worst mistake by taking you back.”

“Calm down, son.”

“Please do not use that on me. I am not going to calm down over this.”

I started pacing around in anger.

With the same frustration, I walked into the room.

Clara followed immediately and stood by the doorway.

“Alexander, I am sorry for what happened. It was a mistake. I only ran into him.”

Clara put on a pleading expression.

I stared at her in anger.

“You are nothing but a bitch, and Sophia is far better than you.”

I said it directly to her face.

“Get your things out of my room. You are no longer going to sleep here.”

I pointed toward the door.

Clara remained speechless. This was the last thing she expected from me.

“I am not leaving. Please, I am going to stay here with you.”

She knelt down and held my feet.

“I can't be fooled anymore, Clara. It is obvious that you have been manipulating me all this while, and that's something I can't take anymore.”

I pushed her aside and relaxed on the bed, breathing heavily with anger.

I could see the tears flowing down her cheeks.

“I'm sorry, Alexander. I never thought this would get to this point.”

I shook my head in disappointment and scrolled through the contacts on my phone, hoping to reach Sophia.

The number wasn't going through.

I tried again and even checked her social media accounts.

For months, Sophia had remained inactive.

I threw my phone onto the bed in anger.
