Abandoned by My Alpha Mate

The cold metal bit into my wrists as I struggled against the silver-laced restraints. Each movement sent waves of burning pain through my skin, the silver reacting with my werewolf blood like acid. I tugged harder, desperate to free myself from the ritual table in the center of Camille's healing chamber. "Stop struggling, Helena," Camille said, her voice dripping with false sweetness as she arranged gleaming surgical instruments on a tray beside me. "This is for the advancement of our pack's healing knowledge." I glared up at Christopher's stepsister, her perfectly manicured hands selecting a scalpel that caught the harsh overhead light. The sterile white walls of the healing chamber seemed to close in around me, amplifying the metallic scent of the instruments and the antiseptic smell that couldn't quite mask the underlying scent of blood. "This isn't healing," I said, my voice steady despite the fear clawing at my throat. "Whatever you're planning to do to me—" The door swung open, and Christopher strode in, his powerful frame filling the doorway. My heart leapt at the sight of my mate—the Alpha who had once saved me from rogue wolves and promised to protect me forever. But the coldness in his gray eyes as they swept over me extinguished that flicker of hope.

Chapter 1

The cold metal bit into my wrists as I struggled against the silver-laced restraints. Each movement sent waves of burning pain through my skin, the silver reacting with my werewolf blood like acid. I tugged harder, desperate to free myself from the ritual table in the center of Camille's healing chamber.

"Stop struggling, Helena," Camille said, her voice dripping with false sweetness as she arranged gleaming surgical instruments on a tray beside me. "This is for the advancement of our pack's healing knowledge."

I glared up at Christopher's stepsister, her perfectly manicured hands selecting a scalpel that caught the harsh overhead light. The sterile white walls of the healing chamber seemed to close in around me, amplifying the metallic scent of the instruments and the antiseptic smell that couldn't quite mask the underlying scent of blood.

"This isn't healing," I said, my voice steady despite the fear clawing at my throat. "Whatever you're planning to do to me—"

The door swung open, and Christopher strode in, his powerful frame filling the doorway. My heart leapt at the sight of my mate—the Alpha who had once saved me from rogue wolves and promised to protect me forever. But the coldness in his gray eyes as they swept over me extinguished that flicker of hope.

"Alpha," I whispered, "please don't do this."

Christopher's jaw tightened as he approached the table. "Helena, you will submit to this procedure. It's for the greater good of the pack."

"I don't want to be experimented on," I said, pulling harder against the restraints. "Camille doesn't know what she's doing—"

"Enough!" Christopher's voice dropped into the Alpha command, the supernatural weight of it crushing against my will. "As your Alpha and your mate, I command you to submit."

The Alpha command slammed into me like a physical blow. My body went limp against the table, my wolf howling in protest but unable to resist the order. Tears of frustration burned behind my eyes as I felt my control slip away.

"Perfect," Camille purred, lifting the scalpel. "Now we can begin."

The pain was excruciating. I couldn't move, couldn't fight back as Camille made the first incision. My wolf retreated deep inside me, whimpering as something essential seemed to drain away with each cut.

---

Three days later, I lay in my bed, staring at the ceiling as waves of weakness washed over me. My wolf felt distant, muted—like a radio signal fading in and out. The scars on my torso throbbed with each heartbeat, angry red lines that would never fully heal thanks to the silver-infused stitches Camille had used.

"Helena?" Christopher's voice came from the doorway of our shared quarters. "You need to get up. The pack meeting starts in an hour."

I turned my head slowly, each movement requiring effort. "Christopher... please. Whatever Camille is doing to me, it's hurting my wolf. I can barely feel her anymore."

He crossed the room and sat on the edge of the bed, his expression unreadable. "Your discomfort is temporary. Camille says the first treatment was successful."

"Successful?" I pushed myself up on trembling arms. "Look at me! I can't even shift properly anymore. My wolf is dying inside me!"

Christopher's eyes hardened. "You're being dramatic. This is important work for the pack."

"My mother says—"

"Your mother's continued care depends entirely on your cooperation," he cut me off, his voice cold. "The pack healer reports that her condition is deteriorating. Without regular treatments..."

He didn't need to finish the threat. My mother's chronic illness required specialized care that only the pack could provide. Christopher was making it clear—my compliance with Camille's experiments was the price for my mother's life.

---

Two weeks later, I discovered the truth. Camille wasn't just performing experimental procedures—she was deliberately causing me pain.

"It's strange," I overheard her telling one of her assistants as they prepared for my next session. "Most patients receive pain management during these types of procedures, but for Helena... well, we need to see how she responds without it."

My blood ran cold as I lay on the table, pretending to be sedated while waiting for her to begin.

"Besides," she added with a laugh that chilled me to my core, "watching her suffer is almost too easy. Christopher is so blind to what's happening right under his nose."

When I finally managed to tell Christopher what I'd heard, his reaction crushed what remained of my hope.

"You're spreading lies about my sister," he growled, pacing our bedroom like a caged animal. "Camille has dedicated her life to healing this pack. You're just trying to undermine her work because you're weak."

"I'm not lying!" I cried, clutching the bedpost for support as another wave of weakness hit me.

Christopher stopped pacing and fixed me with a stare that made my blood freeze. "If you continue with these accusations, there will be consequences. Serious ones. Do you understand?"

In that moment, looking into the eyes of the man who was supposed to be my protector, I realized the truth: I was completely alone in my suffering.

The scent hit me before I even opened the door to our cramped apartment. It wasn't the smell of the cheap pine cleaner I scrubbed the floors with until my knuckles bled. It was vanilla and cloying sweetness—Ava’s scent. My heart hammered against my ribs, a frantic bird trapped in a cage. I adjusted the heavy bag of groceries on my hip, wincing as the strap dug into my shoulder. I was seven months pregnant, my ankles swollen, my back aching from a double shift at the pack house kitchens. I had picked up extra hours just to buy Reece the stethoscope he needed for his final exams. "Reece?" I called out, my voice trembling. Silence. Then, a soft giggle.

The monthly pack gathering was always a special event for me. As an Omega in the Silverfang Pack, these nights were rare occasions when I could feel like I belonged. Tonight was extra special—I'd been planning to surprise Cristian with the news that I'd finally completed my thesis on ancient Lycan migration patterns, something that had taken months of research. I smoothed down my simple blue dress—the nicest one I owned—and touched the silver ring on my finger for reassurance. It was my only heirloom, though few knew its true significance. "You look beautiful tonight, Lexi," Elena, my roommate and closest friend, whispered as we entered the community hall. "Are you going to tell him how you feel?" I nodded, clutching my folder of research papers tighter. "I think tonight's the perfect night." The hall was already packed with pack members. Music played from somewhere in the corner, and the scent of food and excitement filled the air. I scanned the room for Cristian's tall figure, my heart racing at the thought of seeing him.

I smoothed down the front of my silver gown for the twentieth time, my fingers trembling slightly as they traced the delicate beadwork. Three months of overtime shifts at the pack's coffee shop had paid for this dress—a dress I'd hoped would finally make me look like I belonged among the Silvermoon elite. Like I deserved to stand beside their future Alpha. "You can do this, Lauren," I whispered to my reflection, forcing a smile that didn't quite reach my eyes. Seven years of loving Steven, seven years of enduring whispers and sidelong glances from his pack members, and tonight was supposed to be the beginning of the end of all that. Our marking ceremony was just weeks away. The Full Moon Festival was in full swing by the time I arrived at the clearing. Fairy lights twinkled in the trees surrounding the ceremonial grounds, and the enormous bonfire cast dancing shadows across the faces of pack members dressed in their finest. The scent of roasted meat and sweet wine hung in the air, mingling with the earthy perfume of the forest at night. "Lauren!

The ceremonial hall of the Moonveil Pack was ablaze with moonlight streaming through the high windows, casting silver patterns across the polished wooden floor. I stood at the edge of the crowd, my fingers clutching the delicate parchment of my mate letter so tightly it trembled. My heart—the heart that wasn't mine by blood but by grace—pounded against my ribs as I watched Colton, tall and commanding in his ceremonial Alpha robes, take his place on the dais. Every step I took toward him felt like walking through water, the eyes of both Moonveil and Robertson pack members burning into my back. I could feel their judgment, their whispers—*an Omega with a borrowed heart, thinking she could be Luna.* But Colton had promised me. Just last night, his fingers intertwined with mine as we stood by the lake, the moon reflecting in his eyes. 'Tomorrow, Priscilla. Tomorrow I'll make it official before everyone.' I reached the dais, my simple white dress—the only formal thing I owned—rustling softly against the floor. Colton's eyes met mine, and for a moment, I saw something flicker there. Something that made hope surge through me.

The grocery bags slipped from my hands, hitting the hardwood floor with a dull thud that echoed through our bedroom like a gunshot. Caelen was on top of her—Seraphina from the council's administrative office—her auburn hair splayed across our pillows like spilled wine. The scent hit me before my eyes could fully process what I was seeing: his familiar rosemary mixing with her cloying gardenia perfume, creating a nauseating cocktail that made my inner wolf, Aria, recoil in physical agony. "Lyra!" Caelen's voice cracked as he scrambled off the bed, his Beta aura flaring in what I'd once mistaken for protective instinct but now recognized as pure irritation. Not shame. Not remorse. Irritation. Seraphina clutched the sheet to her chest, her green eyes wide with panic as she gathered her scattered clothes. "I—I should go," she stammered, practically falling over herself to escape. "Yes, you should," I whispered, my voice barely audible over the roaring in my ears.
