A Heart Misunderstood
Chapter 3
The doctor who removed my heart hurried to the operating room at that moment.
"Boss, the donor's family turned their phones off. We can't reach them at all," he said.
My brother thought for a moment and told the doctor, "Keep trying to contact the family. Put the donor's body in the morgue for now. She saved my sister. I'll personally arrange a grand funeral for her after Yvette passes the danger stage."
The doctor nodded and had the nurses push my body to the morgue.
Two nurses pushed my body along the hallway. They passed by the operating room of Yvette on the way.
I watched helplessly as my body passed in front of my brother. His attention was fixed on the operating room. He did not look in my direction at all.
"Joseph, that's me. Look at me just once. I'm right there!" I cried and shouted at him.
It was unfortunate that he could not hear a word.
"Is the family still unreachable? The donor's last name is Sinclair. She has the same last name as the Boss. They can't be related, right?" a nurse asked.
"How could that be possible? Don't speak of such nonsense. Look at the operating room light. The sister of the Boss is inside there. He only has one sister, and she's the one he loves the most. He has no other relatives!" a nurse replied.
I watched as my body was pushed further away. I heard the conversation of the nurses clearly.
'Right. I'll never be someone my brother will miss. He won't care even if he knew I had died," I thought.
Too much disappointment had piled up. Only resentment remained in my heart.
Joseph seemed to remember something.
He ordered his assistant sternly, "Kick Wendy out of the hospital. Her staying here is a waste of medical resources. Put her on the hospital blacklist. She's not allowed to enter any private hospital under the Sinclair Enterprise again!"
His assistant looked troubled. "Boss, that may not be the right decision. Wendy is still your sister, after all."
My brother snorted coldly.
"What's wrong with it? I want to teach her a lesson! She relied on being my sister to act without restraint. She'll become more uncontrollable if I don't punish her this time!" he exclaimed.
I thought my heart had gone numb, but pain still spread through it when I heard his words.
My respiratory failure had always been treated at the private hospitals owned by Sinclair Enterprise. He would know if he cared to check.
Every treatment cost a huge amount of money. Losing the chance to receive treatment meant death for me.
I would have died in despair when the next illness struck and I was thrown out of the hospital, if I was still alive.
For the first time, I felt glad that I had died.
I wondered if my brother would regret his decision after learning the truth.
Joseph continued to wait anxiously for the surgery results after sending the assistant away.
The nanny who took care of me arrived at the operating room at that moment. She was panting.
She grabbed his sleeve and begged, "Sir, have you seen Miss Wendy? The doctor said she entered the operating room, but I can't find her anywhere!"
Joseph looked furious. He shook off her hand and replied, "Wendy is perfectly fine. You were fooled by her tricks. She isn't sick at all!"
The nanny wanted to say something, but the operating room doors suddenly opened.
Joseph rushed forward eagerly.
"The surgery was a success. The patient will be transferred to the ICU for twenty-four hours of observation," the doctor said.
Joseph was extremely happy after confirming that her surgery was successful and her condition was stable. He no longer cared about my deceivement.
He immediately turned on his phone and opened a shopping app to buy gifts that Yvette liked.
"When Yvette wakes up, I'll give her her favourite gifts. The necklace she liked last time and the watch. I'll buy all of them for her!"
While my brother was happily choosing gifts, an unknown phone number called in.
He accidentally pressed the answer button. He was about to hang up but there was a voice of a man that came from the other end.
"Are you a family member of Wendy Sinclair? The patient donated her organ, and her body is still in our hospital. Please come over to handle the family arrangements," he said.
