Chapter 6

As he asked me the question, I felt a flush rise to my checks, Seriously, this man is really unbelievable narcissistic about his looks.

"I'm not looking at you, sir. I was just listening to your words during the meeting to learning. You know I was new here." I said with a fake smile.

"If you say so, Miss Isolde," he chuckled, clearly not believing me, still wearing that annoyingly charming smile.

"You can go and familiarize yourself with the company, and get back here by one o'clock. We have work to do, and the dos and don't handbooks are in your office, make sure you read and understand it. Sofia will show you around, the rest" he said, his eyes never leaving mine.

I nodded and quickly walked out of his office, feeling a bit dwindled. There was a way Marcus looked at me that I can't describe.

I went to my office and familiarized myself with the documents and what was expected of me as an assistant. I also read the dos and don't. I met Sofia, who showed me around the company and explained the company policy.

We went from one floor to another and she introduced me to people. She took me to everywhere in the company and she was really nice, she also gisted me about a lot of things in the company. She also told me she as a huge crush on Aiden.

We come back to the top floor only to see a sexy, hot lady. This lady was really stunning with her killer body. Who is she?

"Hi, Miss Lyra," Sofia said, then it clicked, Lyra who was obsessed with Marcus, Oh.

"Are you the new PA?" Lyra asked, not even replying to Sofia, who also shrugged as if it's not the first time she didn't reply to her.

"Yes ma'am, what can I do for you?" I asked politely.

"I don't want you to be too close to Marcus, just focus on your work and don't think of anything else beyond that, he is mine. Do you understand" she asked, and I was dumbfounded, was she for real? Who wanted Marcus before?

"Answer me, I don't even know why Marcus would hire a female P.A. He doesn't like a woman P.A. because they mostly fall for him. I'm warning you now, all extra thoughts you have about Marcus should die now," she said, wow she should have mentioned it to the CEO that she doesn't like him having a female PA. How is that my business, and also if the CEO is hers why the insecurity, that she has to warn every female.

"Don't worry, Madam Lyra, because he means as much to you as a gold ring does, it doesn't mean I view him the same. I won't fall for him. You can relax. The only relationship we can have is a boss and employee" I said reassuring her.

"That's good. You know your place and spare me some effort" she said and walked away. To tell the truth, she was really stunning and the type any man would want. She just has a bad attitude or else I would have liked her.

"Is that how she usually behaves, warning every girl that works with the CEO." I asked Sofia.

"Yes, she did the same when I first arrived here, but I assured that the CEO is hers, and I want nothing to do with him, my goal is Aiden," she said smiling. "Does the CEO know about it?" I asked.

"I really don't know about that," Sofia said.

"But wait, does she think the CEO is the only good man in the world, so every woman must be in love with him? She is wrong, the CEO is nothing, I don't even like him talk less of falling in love with him" I said, a big lie though, I don't love the CEO, which is impossible for me, but I do find him attractive and am somewhat drawn to him.

"Really, who looks stunned? When they saw me for the first time and said out loud 'is this a god or human?" a voice said behind me, making me jump.

As I turned around, my eyes met Marcus, and I felt a flutter in my chest. He stood at the entrance of his office, his eyes fixed on me with an unreadable expression. Is he angry?

I felt my face heat up with embarrassment as I was caught bragging, and I quickly looked away, trying to compose myself. He walked towards me.

"Ah, Selena, I see you're getting acquainted with Lyra, and she has warned you" He said, his voice dripping with amusement. He really knows about lyra warning every girl that's close to him and yet he does nothing about it. Did he use her as a shield to stop women from having any design on him? Or he is also in love with Lyra and lets her do as she wants, but that's none of my business.

"Yes, sir," I said, trying to sound professional.

Marcus chuckled, and I felt his eyes on me, making me squirm. "Let's go, it's almost one o'clock, I need to discuss some things with you," he said, and went back to his office.

I nodded and followed. We stepped into his office, the scent of leather and power wafting through the air. Marcus went to sit on the couch. His piercing gaze met mine, his eyes burning with an intensity that left me breathless.

"This is my schedule for today," he said, his voice low and commanding. "From tomorrow onwards, you will be the one to arrange my schedule. Do you understand?"

My voice trembled as I replied, "Yes, sir.. and what else, sir?" The words hung in the air, laced with anticipation. We were fine earlier what happened now. We were just joking outside the office. Why did his mood change? Or is he angry about what I said earlier?

"Nothing for now" he said, his eyes never leaving mine. "Just help me sort through these documents. Give me the ones that need my signature, the ones that need review separate them and give them to me one by one"

As I handed him the documents, our hands touched for the first time, and a spark of electricity ran through my body, leaving my skin tingling. Marcus eyes locked onto mine, his gaze burning with a hunger that left me reeling. He moved his mouth. "Mat.." before he stops and doesn't continue the words.

Time stood still as we stared at each other, the tension between us thick and heavy. I felt my heart pounding in my throat. And then, before I knew it, I was slammed against the wall, Marcus's body caging mine, his face hardened onto a mask of intensity.

My body ached from the impact, I struggled to break free, pushing him, but he won't budge. He was too strong, I felt trapped. Is he really a human, with such strength? I wondered my mind racing with questions.

"Who sent you to me?" He growled like a wolf, his voice low and menacing.

My mind reeled as I stared into his eyes, the question hanging in the air like a challenge. Who sent me? What did he mean? And the earlier word?

My phone was dead on the nightstand, charger cord too short to reach the bed. His was right there, face down on the comforter. I typed in his passcode. Same one he'd used since college — his mom's birthday. The screen opened to a text thread. Not mine. The name at the top said Azalea with a small red flower emoji beside it.

It was the fifth anniversary of my death, coinciding with the day Estrella Cole, Skyler Thomas's childhood friend, had her leukemia relapse. He finally remembered me because I was the only compatible bone marrow donor. "Izabella Bryant, you have one day to get to the hospital and donate your bone marrow." "Don't forget, this is what you owe Estrella!" "If you're late and something happens to her, don't blame me for cutting off your mother's medical funds." On the other end of the line, my mother, her hair as white as snow, listened quietly. After a long pause, she finally replied: "Izabella passed away five years ago, on the very day she donated her heart to you." Five years later, Skyler Thomas walked into my mother's hospital room again. She lay on the bed, pain etched across her face, and struggled to ask, "Skyler, why can't you just leave us in peace?" Skyler looked down at her with contempt. "Leave you in peace? Izabella did this to Estrella. How could I just let it go?" "I told you, as soon as Izabella donates bone marrow to Estrella, we can move on." "Is Izabella really so selfish, willing to watch Estrella suffer?" My mother's eyes widened, her voice hoarse and pained: "I've already told you over the phone!" "Izabella passed away! Five years ago!" Skyler frowned and slapped my mother across the face. "Enough!
