A Baby For The Billionaire
Chapter 15
The long hall of Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church bubbled with excitement as the couple stood at the altar, waiting for their marriage to be finalized and blessed by the priest. All roads that led to the venue had been blocked with different exotic cars of all sizes and ranges.
It was indeed the talk of the town, a gathering of elites and the city’s richest people. But why wouldn’t it be so? It was the wedding of the son of the city’s most popular business man and CEO of the year. It was Jackson Gray’s son’s wedding, it was the wedding of Las Vegas’s most eligible bachelor, a title he wouldn’t be holding on to anymore in a few hours.
The church had been beautified with balloons and ribbons of different colors, there were stunning looks and outfits in the building. Both those who had come to celebrate with them and their rivals who had come to envy and find something to gossip about
Stephen Gray and Jenny Bricks stood at the altar facing each other, the young CEO was dressed smartly in a blue suit which hugged firmly to his body, a black pair of pants and white inner shirt. His expensive black shoes glittered like bald hair under the sun and his face glowed like that of a Disney prince.
His bride on the other hand was wearing a very long strapless wedding gown with a veil to cover her face. The exotic wedding gown had cost a fortune and it was all for this special day. Not like you can expect anything less from a lady whose mother was a model and who intended to be one someday.
Standing in between them was the happy looking priest, he felt honored to be married to one of the richest couples the city had seen and of course he had a lot to gain from that as well, except the publicity.
After the couples had both said their vows, the priest turned to the crowd. “Is there anyone in this congregation that has a reason for this marriage not to proceed, anyone who wishes against this couple being joined in holy matrimony? Speak up now or forever remain silent!” he instructed.
There was silence in the crowd, just a few smiling faces and some ladies gossiping as well. Many of them envied the bride as they wished it was them standing there on that altar with the handsome Stephen Gray.
“With the absence of any obstruction, I will now go ahead and announce to you, Mr. Stephen Gray…”
“Wait!!” a loud feminine voice screamed from the entrance of the church hall.
Everyone turned around as murmurs filled the hall. Standing at the entrance of the church hall was Anastasia McCurry; the daughter of nobody in the midst of people that mattered. She had gotten into the church with the invitation given to her last week.
After thinking it through, she had decided to do what was necessary to be done. If Stephen wanted to get married, she had no problem with that, but she wanted him to know of his child before he did so. She wished she could have told him yesterday when he had reportedly returned from Asia but her mind wasn’t made up till an hour ago.
Ana’s heart was beating vehemently as she walked down the hallway, heading to the couple in her long black gown. Everyone was staring at her with curiosity etched on their faces. Of course, the only people that knew her in that crowd was the groom himself, she was a nobody to the others.
“Young lady, what is the problem?” the priest asked.
Stephen slowly let go of Jenny’s hand to her dismay and he began to walk down the stairs slowly with his eyes fixed on Anna. The young CEO was pleading with his eyes as he knew that she intended to reveal the truth of their affair to the public, his image would be destroyed in the public and he knew he wouldn’t let that happen.
So if Anna went ahead to accuse him of raping her out here in public, he would have to defend himself by denying it and slut-shaming her. He would have no other choice than to protect his reputation by tarnishing hers.
“This wedding cannot go on… not until I have said what I want to say.” Anna uttered from midway down the long hall, she had her eyes fixed on Stephen as well.
“Who the hell are you? Who invited her here? Someone throw this woman out!!” Jenny yelled.
“Yes, throw me out, but before you do, I want the world to know that I am carrying a baby for Stephen Gray… the groom is my unborn baby’s daddy!!” she announced.
The entire hall broke into a pandemonium. Even Stephen froze on his tracks, he couldn’t believe what he had just heard, it was not what he expected and it had left him speechless. He summoned courage to take a few steps closer to her and his eyes rested on her stomach, he could see the small bump… he was in complete shock as he hadn’t seen this coming.
Everyone began to murmur while others watched the whole show attentively to not miss any detail. Jenny jumped down from the altar immediately and started yelling but her bridesmaid held her back.
“She is a liar!! I am sure someone put her up to this to ruin my day… Call the police!! Security, throw her out right now!” she screamed.
The security men headed towards Anna immediately but Stephen raised his hand and signaled them to pause, increasing the murmuring in the hall. He went closer to Anna and stared her in the eyes for a whole silent minute.
“Is it true?” he asked softly. “Are you carrying my child?” he asked.
Anna nodded gently and tears began to roll down her eyes. “I am sorry I had to do this, I didn’t know what else to do. You can feel my stomach if you have any doubts,” she replied.
Stephen stared at her belly again and a small smile crept up his face, he was quick to dissolve it before anyone would notice. His heart was racing at the same time and that was when the confusion hit him. What next??
“Hey, what is going on here?” the priest queried from the Alter.
Stephen turned around immediately with a solemn face. “I am sorry everyone, but this wedding has been called off temporarily.” He announced in a loud voice.
The whole hall broke into an uproar as everyone began to murmur. Jenny walks closer to them with a look of shock on her face, and then she runs off towards the exit of the hall with her long gown mopping the floor. Her friends chase after her immediately.
