Chapter 2

Ivonne’s POV

I immediately hung up on Alison as my body began to shake with anger.

How dare she pick up my husband’s phone? She knew it was me, his wife calling but she didn’t care.

She wanted to show off. She wanted to rub it in my face that she was sleeping with my husband. How could she be so shameless and cruel?

I had only caught glimpses of her around but had never officially met her before, and I couldn’t help but wonder what Lincoln saw in her?

Was she prettier than me? Smarter? Bustier? What did she have that I didn’t?

I had loved Lincoln for 11 years! I had given him everything I had! My love, my devotion, my time, my trust and he threw it all away for Alison? The same girl who dumped him for another man?!

I closed my eyes and forced myself to calm down. I couldn’t lose focus of the goal here. The goal was to save my mom not worry about whatever two faced skank my husband was fucking.

I needed to speak to him face to face. I decided to go home and wait for him.

I had to fight against the nurses and Lora who were trying to keep me in the hospital, insisting that I needed treatment. It was a tough battle but I finally forced Lora to take me home.

I decided to go upstairs and freshen up before Lincoln returned but the sound of laughter stopped me with my hand on our bedroom door.

Was Lincoln already home so early? And was that a woman’s voice I heard?

I slowly pushed the door open and the sight in front of me sent a bolt of pain piercing through my heart like a sharp, fiery knife.

Lincoln was truly home, but he wasn’t alone.

In the bedroom I shared with my husband, was a stunning blonde woman who was sitting with her long legs wrapped around my smiling husband. I had never seen Lincoln look so happy in my life.

Lincoln was kissing her neck and she was giggling with her head thrown back. Lincoln had never looked at me like that before.

Over the past year, I thought that my heart had gotten used to the pain of Lincoln not loving me anymore, but I was wrong.

Seeing the only man that I had ever loved kissing another woman in our bedroom crushed my heart in ways that I couldn’t begin to explain.

Lincoln’s head snapped up to look at me, and all the joy and love on his face disappeared.

“What the hell are you doing here?!” He snapped and it felt like I had been slapped.

I quickly blinked back the tears clouding my eyes. “What am I doing here? Lincoln, this is our bedroom! What is she doing here?!” I couldn’t stop the tears from choking my voice.

Alison grinned at me. “Hi Ivy, it’s so nice to finally meet you. Ive heard a lot about you, but unfortunately not good things.” She said smiling.

Now I knew why Lincoln dumped me for her. Alison was stunning! She had everything. The boobs, the face, the legs. I was like a used up rag beside her.

“Thank you for taking care of Linc for all these years.” She continued. “But now that I’ve moved in, I can take over from here. We will no longer need you.” She grinned at me.

My mind struggled to process what she was saying. “You’ve moved where?” I asked and it was then that I noticed all her bags and things sitting where mine were supposed to be. Lincoln had moved his mistress into our bedroom!

The tears came streaming down my face as I realized what was happening but Lincoln just glared at me.

“Oh don’t cry like a pathetic child!” Lincoln snapped. “Your tears mean nothing to me. You knew this day would come. You knew I loved Alison, yet you have refused to sign the damn divorce papers and set me free.” He snapped and I shook my head.

“No please don’t say that Lincoln, You said you loved me, you promised to be with me forever.”

“Oh shut the hell up woman! I only said those things because I thought you would give me a powerful child to rule my pack, but you’re just as useless as people said you are. I’m sick of your face, your smell and your voice! Staying married to you was torture. Thank God Alison came back to end this nightmare.” He snarled.

Alison laughed and started shushing him. “Please calm down baby, don’t be so harsh, you’re making the poor girl cry. And besides, I don’t want to be the reason you don’t love her, I don’t want to be a home wrecker.” She said and I snorted at that. What a lying hypocrite.

Lincoln hugged her tighter and kissed her cheek. “You’re not a home wrecker my darling. I never loved her, I had to pretend for the first year, but that’s all in the past now.” Then he turned to me with a glare. “Your things are in the next room, now get out.” He snapped but Alison stopped him.

“Calm down baby, she looks like she has something to say, please hear the poor girl.” She was talking about me like I was a begged on the side of the road, but she wasn’t really wrong there.

I had come to beg for my mother’s life and I would do that.

“Lincoln.” I began. “Please… it’s about my mother. She’s getting worse and I can’t cover the hospital bills—-“

Lincoln’s face contorted with rage and he cut me off. “I fucking knew it! Money, money, money! That’s all you care about! That’s all you ever want!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I will never ever give you a dime of my money, unless it’s for your funeral! Now get out of my room!” He screamed and immediately fell on my knees.

“Please! Lincoln please! Since we got married, I have never ever asked you for anything before. I have done everything you have ever asked and I have never asked you for a single penny back! Please help me this once! Please save my mother, Lincoln I’m begging you!” I cried.

“Awww, look at your wife begging on her knees Lincoln.” Alison cooed before turning to address me. “How much do you need for the hospital bills?” She asked.

“It’s $60,000.”

“Hmm,” Alison continued. “That’s not even half the price for my Hermès purse…. Ok, I’ll give you the money.” She said and I blinked at her.

“What? Really?” I couldn’t believe my ears. I was supposed to hate her, but if she saved my mother’s life, I would forever be grateful to her.

“Yea, I’ll give you the money… On one condition.” She continued. “You must crawl on your knees and kiss my feet.” She smiled and extended one long leg to me.

I blinked at her. “What?”

“You heard me, if you really want to save your mother’s life, crawl on your knees and kiss my foot. Or are you too proud to save your mother? Are you going to let her die just because of your pride?” She taunted and I broke down sobbing.

She was right. I had said that I would do anything to save my mother, and even though I knew that Alison was intentionally trying to disgrace me, I didn’t have a choice here. Was I going to trade my mother’s life for my useless pride?

No. I was going to do it. I had to do it.

With sobs wracking my body, I began to crawl forward on my knees, but just when I was about to kiss her foot, she pulled her leg and kicked me very hard in the face, knocking me painfully to the floor.

I groaned in pain as my head hit the floor, the force of her kick and the hard floor made me dizzy with pain. My head was swirling but I could hear Lincoln shout my name with panic in his voice. He sounded like he was worried for me.

“Alison stop it!” I heard him shout again but Alison continued laughing.

The feral wolf's teeth snapped inches from my throat. I twisted left, drove my blade up through its ribcage, and felt the hot spray of blood across my knuckles. It dropped with a gurgling whine. Around me, the Rogue Lands stretched in endless gray—dead trees, cracked earth, and the constant stink of decay. "Arielle!" Silas's voice cut through the chaos. "Three more on your six!" I didn't turn. I could hear them—the scrape of claws on stone, the ragged breathing of wolves who'd lost their humanity years ago. My wolf, Kira, surged beneath my skin, eager and vicious. She'd only awakened two years into my exile, born from rage and survival, and she was nothing like the gentle creature I'd imagined as a child. I spun, caught the first attacker mid-leap with a kick that sent it sprawling.

The second baby I'd lost because Christopher couldn't be bothered to stay with his true mate when she needed him most. "Mrs. Montgomery?" Another crisis that Mallory had manufactured at the exact moment I needed him. My hand instinctively moved to my still-flat stomach, where our pup had been growing just yesterday.
