Chapter 1

Our parents passed away early, leaving my siblings and me to make a living by selling flowers.

When I was twelve, I was sent to deliver flowers to the Lycan Prince's mansion. That’s where I met Zelda Parker, the Lycan Princess and the Prince’s favored mate. She caught me, turned me into a blood sacrifice, and after a night of torment, I died.

A guard delivered a small pouch of gold coins as compensation for my death.

My sister, Margaret, and my brother, Alexander, split the money and buried me hastily.

Margaret spent her share on cosmetics and skincare, dreaming of marrying into a high-ranking pack.

Alexander used his to buy armor and training gear, eager to make a name for himself in the pack’s warrior ranks.

It seemed they had forgotten me.

Three years later, Margaret set up a flower stand outside the Lycan Prince’s mansion, selling roses.

Alexander, meanwhile, had become the Lycan Prince’s most trusted Gamma guard.

==============================

On the seventh day after my death, Zelda sent a guard with a small pouch of gold coins.

"The young girl’s death was an unfortunate accident. The Lycan Princess is deeply saddened and hopes you can find peace," the guard said.

Margaret accepted the money with a smile, and she and Alexander split it once again.

Each received a handful of coins.

Margaret spent hers on cosmetics, expensive creams, and bath oils, turning herself into a vision of beauty, as radiant as any high-ranking Luna.

Alexander invested in the sturdiest armor, the sharpest claws, and even bought himself a position as a Delta warrior.

When the money was nearly gone, only a few coins remained.

They decided that, since my body was still small and frail, a simple wooden casket would suffice.

After burying me hastily,

Alexander set off for the training grounds, hoping to encounter a noble patron who could elevate his status.

Margaret accompanied him to the edge of the pack’s territory, where the wind and dust stung their eyes.

"When we meet again, we won’t just be siblings. Remember that," Alexander said.

Margaret nodded.

Alexander hugged her tightly, whispering in her ear,

"Don’t rush into anything. Zelda is the Lycan Prince’s favored mate, and everyone knows it. Scarlet’s death… it was just an accident."

Margaret’s eyes welled with tears as she smiled faintly.

"Yes, an accident."

My heart stuttered in my chest, but I forced myself to continue tidying his Alpha suite, ignoring the hollow ache spreading through my chest. It was just a scent, I told myself. Nothing concrete. Nothing that could shatter the fragile hope I'd nursed for years. Then I saw it. Tucked between his dark dress shirts was a silk scarf in deep crimson—Bianca's favorite color.

The night air carried the sweet scent of night-blooming jasmine as I walked alone through the Moon Garden. My footsteps crunched softly on the gravel path, each sound echoing in the midnight silence. Ten years. Ten years since I'd buried my pup beneath these silver moonflowers that bloomed only in darkness. I traced my fingers over the marble statue of Mael—my beautiful boy, forever frozen in playful innocence. The moonlight caught the polished stone, making it seem almost alive. "Hello, my little wolf," I whispered, my voice barely audible even to my own ears. "Mother's here." The silence that answered me felt heavier than usual. For the first time in a decade, Kane wasn't here. We always came together on this night—to remember, to grieve, to hold each other in the darkness that never quite healed.

I could hear Ayden's breathing from across the basement room. Each inhale was a shallow, wet rattle that told me what I already knew: my son was slipping away. The pack healer had refused my pleas for the third time this week, and I had nothing left to offer him except the memory of a mother's love and whatever dignity I could salvage from this crumbling world. I ran my fingers along the cold brick wall as I made my way to the door, counting my steps the way I had learned to do since losing my sight. Twenty-three steps to the door. I couldn't see the mold growing in the corners anymore, but I could smell it—just as I could smell Ayden's sickness, the metallic scent of failing organs that no amount of love could heal. "Mama?" His voice was barely a whisper, and I turned toward it, my body responding to the sound even if my eyes could not. "I'm here, baby." I knelt beside his small mattress, finding his hand with ease. His skin was so hot, so dry. "I'm going to get you something special.

The moon-daisies bloomed perfectly tonight, their silver petals catching the light as I arranged them in crystal vases around the great hall. Thirty years. Three decades of devotion, sacrifice, and careful cultivation—of both these flowers and the Ironhowl Pack. "More candles in the east corner, Elena," I instructed the young Omega, smoothing down my ceremonial silver gown. "The elders prefer brighter lighting." "Yes, Luna Luciana." Elena scurried away, her movements quick and efficient. I touched the moon-daisy pendant at my throat—my secret talisman, my reminder of what once was and what could have been. Theodore's pendant. My fingers lingered there as I surveyed the hall one final time. "Everything is perfect," I whispered to myself. "It has to be." The great hall of Ironhowl Pack House glittered with silver and blue decorations.
