Rejected Mate's Vengeance Novel Cover

Rejected Mate's Vengeance

I woke up to a warm sensation beside me. My body stiffened as I slowly turned my head, my pupils constricting in shock. It was Kinley Taylor, my half-sister. She lay there, naked, her dark hair tangled, her cheeks flushed with the afterglow of pleasure. She slept soundly, her breathing soft and steady. But… how was this possible? Six months ago, the Herrera packhouse had been consumed by flames in a single night. No one survived. Kinley had perished in that fire. And yet, here she was, alive and well.

Chapter 5

Kinley Taylor scrambled toward the door while I was momentarily distracted. Just as her fingers brushed the threshold, I seized her ankle and dragged her back across the floor.

"Ah!" she screamed, her pregnant belly scraping against the rough surface, leaving a trail of blood in its wake.

I hauled her onto the bed and placed my hand gently on her swollen stomach, feeling the violent kicks beneath my palm. The pup inside seemed to sense the danger, thrashing in fear. I wiped away the tears streaming down her terrified face.

"Kinley," I murmured softly, "you played a part in the pack’s destruction, didn’t you?"

Her entire body shuddered, and she let out a piercing scream. "You’re not Sean! Who are you?!"

Her panic only intensified the pup’s movements, its tiny feet visibly pressing against her skin. I glanced down at my hands, now strong and powerful. Being an Alpha—being the pack leader—felt incredible. The sheer strength at my fingertips was intoxicating.

"I am your Sean," I whispered, my voice tender. "Your mate." My fingers tightened around her throat, cutting off any further words. She didn’t deserve to speak. She deserved to die.

Kinley’s eyes widened in terror, her hands clawing desperately at my arms before finally falling limp.

Tch. Killing her was easier than I’d imagined.

My coworkers at the pack’s healing center often accuse me of being too tightfisted. They say that to keep a high-ranking mate, I need to invest a little myself. But I just laugh it off and tell them, "As long as I’m generous to myself, that’s all that matters. Investing in yourself is the surest way to make any wolf fall at your feet." I don’t pretend to be virtuous. Thanks to my mother, an Omega who sacrificed her dignity to support our family after my father’s injury, and my father, a Delta warrior who fell into gambling after losing his leg to a rogue attack, I’ve seen all kinds of wolves and understand life’s harsher truths. I don’t resent them; instead, I’m grateful they’ve given me a clear view of the pack’s hierarchy and its brutal realities. When I decided to give Jaiden Diaz, a Gamma from the Silver Fang Pack, a chance, I made sure to tell him about my background, tears and all. Surprisingly, it didn’t drive him away; it only fueled his desire to protect me. I guess the allure of a fragile Omega, combined with my tough persona, is hard to resist. But, honestly, I don’t love him.

I stood outside Nathan's study, my heart hammering against my ribs like a trapped bird. The silk robe I'd chosen clung to my curves, the sheer material leaving little to imagination. This was attempt number one thousand—not that I was counting—to seduce my own mate. My fingers trembled as I smoothed down the delicate fabric, the cool silk a stark contrast to my feverish skin. My wolf, Luna, whined anxiously inside me. *He has to notice us tonight. He has to.* "He will," I whispered, more to convince myself than her. "He has to." I took a deep breath and pushed open the heavy oak door without knocking. Nathan sat behind his massive desk, his broad shoulders hunched over a stack of papers, the lamp casting golden shadows across his chiseled features. My breath caught—even after a year of neglect, the sight of him still made my heart stutter.

Every time his feelings for me deepened, he was struck by a punishing surge of the Moon Goddess’s wrath. On our wedding night, after enduring eighty-one such surges, he was left weakened and battered, yet he still whispered, “Noemi, the Moon Goddess may want me to forsake you, but I’ll risk everything to make you my Luna.” Later, when rogues attacked the Shadow Fang territory, I was captured and thrown into the pack dungeon, where ninety-nine silver spikes were driven into my body. I called for a healer to examine him. Madelynn, his caretaker, began to wail, her voice shrill and accusatory. "This is the Alpha’s son! If anything happens to him, you’ll regret it!" Everyone in the territory knew I was to become the Luna of the Blue Moon Pack. Her words were deliberate, meant to provoke.
