Rejected by the Alpha Who Sacrificed Our Pup for His Affair
Chapter 1
Five-year-old Raina was in a horrific car accident and was severely injured. My mate, Derrick Reynolds, Alpha of the Silver Moon Pack and a chief physician, deliberately delayed her surgery. Through the hospital room door, I overheard his conversation with a healer from our pack.
"If you delay the treatment any longer, it could become a serious problem. Raina is still so young. Aren’t you worried she might actually die on the operating table?"
Derrick’s voice was icy, his alpha tone cutting through the air like a blade. "If she dies, she dies."
"Jade is already pregnant. If Raina is still around, I can’t fully love her child."
"Besides, Jade isn’t feeling well today, and I can’t focus on the surgery."
My heart was shattered, and I could barely stand. The happiness I thought I had was nothing more than a facade. The mate bond between us, once strong and unbreakable, now felt like a chain tightening around my neck.
Fine. Let him have his way.
The healer’s voice trembled slightly, her respect for his title warring with her concern. "Alpha, is Jade really worth all this? Your Luna has stood by you all these years."
"She’s already lost the use of her legs. If something happens to Raina too, I’m afraid she won’t be able to cope."
After a long pause, Derrick finally spoke, his tone softer but no less chilling. "I know. I’ve decided I’ll make it up to her. She can only have either a child or love."
"Jade went through severe depression when we broke up. She even attempted suicide several times. Now she’s pregnant, and I can’t let her child down again."
The healer seemed on the verge of saying more but only sighed in resignation at Derrick’s unwavering stance, her head bowed in deference to her Alpha.
Gripping the side of the hospital bed until my knuckles turned white, I listened to their conversation as tears streamed uncontrollably down my cheeks.
It turns out my six years as Luna were nothing but a lie. My mate had been cheating on me, and now he even had a child with another wolf. Now, he was willing to sacrifice our daughter’s chance for life for this unborn child.
Why should their love come at the expense of my innocent daughter’s life?
I somehow managed to get out of bed, although my bandaged legs were excruciatingly painful. The sound of me falling to the ground alerted the people outside, and the door swung open in the next moment.
Seeing me on the floor, Derrick rushed to help me up, his Alpha aura radiating concern. "Why are you moving around when you’re injured? You should stay in bed," he said, his voice gentle but laced with authority.
I clutched his hand, my voice shaking, "How is Raina? I need to see her!"
She hadn’t even had the strength to cry out in pain in the ambulance. With the delay, I feared the worst.
The thought pushed me into despair, and tears fell in large drops.
Seeing this, a flicker of guilt crossed Derrick’s eyes. "Don’t worry. I’ll take you to her."
In the emergency room, I saw my daughter on the hospital bed, covered in blood, a tear still resting at the corner of her eye. My heart felt like it was being torn apart.
I gripped Derrick’s hand, begging desperately. "Please, save her. Raina is your daughter, too!"
Yet I underestimated his coldness and lack of empathy.
Derrick looked at me calmly, his voice gentle but his words heartbreakingly indifferent. "It’s not that I don’t want to help. The operating room is occupied."
He had barely finished speaking when the monitor beside Raina’s bed suddenly blared an alarm, the piercing tones almost splitting my eardrums.
With each alarm, my heart shattered further. Eventually, other healers rushed in, wheeling Raina into the operating room.
I watched the doors close, feeling like my heart was being stabbed a thousand times.
Raina was my beloved child. But because of her father’s childhood sweetheart’s unborn pup, her life was being put at risk. It was utterly absurd.
But fate is cruel. In the end, I heard the healer’s regretful words: "Please accept our condolences, Luna. We did everything we could."
My wolf whimpered in the back of my mind, a sound of pure anguish. Our pup was gone, and the bond between us, once unbreakable, now felt like a fragile thread, ready to snap at any moment.
