Rejected by My Beta Mate
Chapter 2
Mrs. Ellis swept into the room, flanked by a crowd of Silver Moon Pack members, her energy defying any whispers of illness. Her presence was commanding, even for an Omega, and the air seemed to shift as she entered.
"This is the house my future son-in-law provided for me," she declared, her voice dripping with pride. "Isn’t it magnificent? My daughter has made an exceptional match with Beta Calvin Jenkins. Such a strong, loyal Beta—he’ll make a fine mate for Valery."
She glanced around the room, her gaze landing on my mom, who stood awkwardly near the entrance. Mrs. Ellis’s expression darkened instantly, her lips curling into a sneer.
"And who are you?" she demanded, her tone sharp enough to cut steel. "What are you doing in *my* house? I thought we had security to keep vagrants out."
Her eyes lit up with mock realization. "Ah, you must be the maid Beta Calvin hired. Why are you just standing there? Don’t you see we have guests? Go make some coffee, or you’ll be out of a job by sundown."
My mom, bewildered, looked to me for guidance. But before she could speak, Mrs. Ellis stormed over and struck her hard across the face. The sound of the slap echoed through the room, leaving my mom’s cheek swollen and red.
"Am I talking to a ghost?" Mrs. Ellis screeched, her voice rising. "Dressed like a beggar, you should be grateful to even be employed here. How dare you ignore my orders! Get that coffee ready, or you’ll be thrown out with the trash!"
"Mom!" I gasped, rushing to her side. My wolf stirred within me, a low growl forming in my chest as I glared at Mrs. Ellis and the pack members gathered behind her.
"You have one minute to leave," I said, my voice low but laced with a Delta warrior’s authority. "Or I won’t hesitate to call the pack enforcers."
Mrs. Ellis laughed, a cruel, grating sound. "Who do you think you are, giving orders to me? This is *my* house, bought by my future son-in-law. If the enforcers come, it’s you two who’ll be dragged out for trespassing!"
The room fell silent, the tension thick enough to choke on. I turned to Calvin, my mate—or rather, my *ex-mate*—who stood nearby, his face a storm of conflicting emotions. For a moment, I thought he might step in, might finally defend me against this blatant disrespect.
But instead, he shoved my arm roughly, his voice cold and cutting. "Enough, Rachel. How dare you, the daughter of an Omega, cause a scene here? You’re both fired. Get out. Now."
Mrs. Ellis smirked, crossing her arms. "And pack up your things for me to inspect. With how shabby you look, I wouldn’t be surprised if you’ve been stealing from me."
My mom, never one to back down, stepped forward despite the pain in her face. "This is *my* house," she said firmly, her voice steady. "If anyone’s leaving, it’s you."
Mrs. Ellis’s fury erupted like a wildfire. "You’re refusing to leave *my* house? I’ll make you regret it!"
Before anyone could react, she lashed out, delivering a brutal kick to my mom’s stomach. My mom crumpled to the floor, her head hitting the ground with a sickening thud. She didn’t move.
The room erupted into chaos, but my focus narrowed to my mom’s still form. My wolf howled within me, a mix of rage and helplessness. I dropped to my knees beside her, my hands trembling as I checked for a pulse.
"Mom," I whispered, my voice breaking. "Please, stay with me."
Around me, the pack members murmured, their voices a blur of judgment and indifference. Calvin stood frozen, his face unreadable, while Mrs. Ellis looked on with a twisted satisfaction.
In that moment, I knew one thing with absolute certainty: I would never let this stand. Not for my mom. Not for myself. The Silver Moon Pack might have its hierarchy, its rules, but this—this was a line that couldn’t be crossed.
