This is real, I thought. Somehow, I have gone back in time to the day I got married to Alpha Nathan. "I need to take a picture of you, but I can't do it without your sister. Wait here for me while I go get your sister." Mom left the room, leaving me alone with my thoughts. My hands formed a fist in anger as I thought of Quinn and Alpha Nathan. Chapter 6

Gianna POV

“What do you think?” Axel asked. From the look on his face, I could tell that he wanted me to be impressed, and I was. What woman won't be impressed by a man who listens to her and is willing to go this far?

“Is there something on the list you don't like?” Axel glanced at the list and glared at Carl, who was responsible for arranging the list.

“No, no, no,” I repeated, “The list is okay.” There was nothing wrong with the list Carl made. It literally contains every woman's dream job.

Last night I spoke to Axel about how bored I was staying in the pack house all day. I told him of how I would like to do something for myself. I thought he didn't listen to me when I spoke to him last night because he was sleepy, but now I know that I was wrong. Axel ordered Carl to get him a list of jobs that would pique my interest, not as though he was going to introduce me to a place but Axel was going to open a full store for me, and he was also willing to let me start a company of my own if that was what I wanted. Right now I felt wow and completely dumbstruck; this was a contract marriage, and he didn't need to go this far to take care of me. Not even Nathan went this far to take care of me when we were married.

“A boutique.” I said. I don't mind working in a boutique.

Axel nodded and started talking to Carl about opening up a clothing boutique for me immediately.

After forming a contract with Axel, we both started sharing the same room and started living as though we were real married couples, but only we knew the truth about our fake relationship and when it was going to end.

“I don't need to own a large boutique; a small store is enough for me.” I said quickly after overhearing Axel conversation with Carl.

Axel chuckled, “You are my wife; you are not going to own a small store. Don't forget that you are bearing my family name.”

I can't argue with Axel after he said that. When I told them that I wanted to do something that could help me leave the house at times, I was referring to my inheritance. I wanted it; I can't let my parents give what belongs to me to Quinn.

“Can we please stop all this?” I couldn't hide the sadness that came to my voice from thinking of Quinn and my parents. “There is no need for you to do this for me; it's not like I don't have a dime to my name. I can always go back and claim my inheritance.” It won't be easy; my parents currently want nothing to do with me.

“Excuse us, Carl.” Axel ordered.

“Yes, Alpha,” Carl left the room.

Axel softly took my hand; his gentle hold made me look at him. Was he going to let me go home? The gentle look on his face would have given me hope if I didn't already know the sort of man he was. He could act kind, loving, and gentle until he opened his mouth to reveal his dark nature.

“Won't it be nicer for you to return to your family with something other than nothing?” He asked sweetly, “Remember, you wanted this, every authority that comes from being my wife.”

Although alpha Axel's words were sweet, it was no different from poison.

Axel caresses my cheek with his palm. I lean into his touch. Even though I was caged to his side, I wasn't allowed to leave his side. I should hate him for it, but I don't. A part of me knew that this was going to be my fate when I had begged him to marry me and let me be his Luna.

I don't hate his touch or the sweet lies he fills me with whenever he is with me; I know that everything was to make me an obedient little bird who won't ever dream of leaving the cage he was building for me. I'm a woman who had been starved of love and affection in my past life, so much that I was willing to accept alpha Axel's delusion of love even if everything was fake.

A knock came to the door, separating Axel and me.

“Your secretary is here, demanding to see you in your office, and she is very…” Carl paused and stared at me, searching for the right words to say, “She is persistent.”

“I don't have any appointments with her today; what does she want?” Axel asked, annoyed.

Carl shrugged.

“Tell her to wait; I'm with my wife.” Axel was about to dismiss Carl but stopped and said, “Find out what she wants.”

“I already tried, but she refused to speak to me and demands to see you.”

“It's alright; you can bring her here.” I said to Carl; he turned to Axel for approval.

“I don't think that is a good idea,” Axel said nervously.

“Why?” I asked in a suspicious tone. At the tip of my tongue, I could feel the word cheater begging to roll out. But after what happened last time with those girls, I was willing to give Axel the benefit of a doubt.

“Alpha Axel.” The woman Carl brought in smiled at Axel, brushing her hair to her ears, trying her best to look cute in front of my husband. It took her a few minutes to notice that I wasn't standing far away from Axel.

“Luna Gianna, my name is Vera; I'm Alpha Axel's secretary.” She forced a smile out of her face, her hands clutching tightly to the document she was holding.

I know that Axel was eye candy, but the way she gazed at him shows clearly that she was in love with him.

“What do you want?” Alpha Axel asked sharply. He wasn't pleased to see her.

“Does she come here often?” I asked Axel, with one hand raised, I stopped Vera from replying.

Axel looks nervous as he replied, “Not often.”

“Do you know that she's in love with you?” I felt my blood boiling at Alpha Axel's silence. That means he knew, and he kept a woman who was in love with him as his secretary even though he is married to me. That means that he plans to cheat on me one day like Nathan did with Quinn. The thought made me more angry.

“Fire her, demote her; I don't care, but she's not allowed to be your secretary anymore.” My voice was harsh as I said to Vera, “You.” She was shocked and couldn't believe what was happening. “Get out of this house; I don't want to see you come near this house again.” When Vera refused to move her feet, I shouted, “Leave!” and growled at her in anger, my wolf threatening to come out.

Vera ran out through the door.

“I will demote her,” Axel said when I turned to him. “It's true that Vera chases after me, but it's one-sided. I have no feelings for her, and she is a really good worker, so I can't fire her like that. Finding a new secretary is going to be hard.” He muttered the last part to himself.

“I don't want a clothing boutique anymore; I will work in your company as your new secretary. I'm educated enough for the job.” I said coldly.

“Okay.” Axel forced out, even though he wants to say no.

I left the parlor; I didn't want to give Axel the chance to try and talk me out of my decision.

Vera pov

“I hate her.” I slammed the document in my hands to the floor immediately after stepping into the house.

“Honey, what is wrong?” My mother, Willa, asked.

“Who does she think she is?” Angry tears blind my vision as I ignored my mother.

“What is happening?” My father, Forster, asked as he came out of the dining room.

“I have lost my job as alpha Axel secretary,” my voice cracked in pain as I thought of alpha Axel; he's mine. I can't let anyone else have him; that bitch can't stop us from being together. Tears fill my eyes and drop down my cheek as I think of the mistake I made by going to Alpha Axel's house.

I shouldn't have gone to his house, but I wanted to see him; I wanted to spend time with him. The document was just an excuse.

“What?!” My father shouted, “Why did you lose your job? Everyone in the pack knows that you are an amazing secretary.”

“It's because of Luna Gianna; that insecure bitch made me lose my job because she is jealous of me and the relationship I have with Alpha Axel.”

“Baby.” My mom patted my back, comforting me. “You need to stop with your obsession over alpha Axel; he doesn't love you.”

I push her hands away from me. Alpha Axel loves me; he just hasn't realized it yet.

“You should support your daughter and not go against her.” Dad said.

“I'm not going to let her go astray all because of your greed.” Mom glared at Dad.

I ignored the both of them and thought of Gianna; I'm going to make her pay for this humiliation.

The camera flashes were blinding, a relentless storm of lightning that left spots dancing in my vision. I forced the corners of my mouth upward, plastering on the smile I had practiced in the mirror a thousand times. It was the smile of a future Luna—perfect, poised, and completely hollow. "Closer," a photographer shouted from the press pit. Alpha Adrian Hayes tightened his grip on my waist. To the world, it looked like a possessive, loving embrace. To me, it was a vice. His fingers dug into the silk of my dress, bruising the skin beneath. "Smile brighter, Haisley," he hissed in my ear, his voice a low growl only I could hear. "You look like a corpse.

The autumn wind whispered through the sacred burial grounds as I knelt before Jake's gravestone, my fingers tracing the etched name that represented my last true family connection. The weathered gray stone stood among dozens of others—all that remained of the once-proud Moonridge Pack. "I miss you so much, Jake," I whispered, my voice catching as I placed three handmade moon charms at the base of the stone. Each one was crafted from silver wire and moonstone beads, a tradition our pack elder had taught me before she too was gone. "It's been three years, but it still feels like yesterday." The wind picked up, rustling the leaves around me. In my imagination, it carried Jake's response—warm, protective, telling me to stay strong as he always had. I closed my eyes, letting a tear slip down my cheek. "The pack healer says I'm healthy," I continued our one-sided conversation. "But I lost another one, Jake. Four months, just like the others." My hand instinctively went to my flat stomach, the phantom pain of loss lingering despite my inability to feel physical discomfort.

I felt it before I saw her—a disturbance in the air, like the moment before lightning strikes. The hairs on my arms stood on end as I arranged flowers in the pack house dining room, preparing for tonight's full moon ceremony. "Luna, have you heard?" Ellie whispered, her omega status evident in her hunched shoulders as she hurried toward me. "The European Lycan Council delegation has arrived, and—" The main doors burst open before she could finish. A wave of murmurs swept through the room as a group of wolves entered, but my eyes locked on only one—a woman with flowing auburn hair and piercing green eyes that scanned the room like a predator. Sophia Blake. My fingers tightened around the vase I was holding. My wolf, usually so quiet and submissive, growled deep within my mind. Five years. It had been five years since Dominic had rejected her, choosing me instead.

The dining hall buzzed with warmth and laughter as pack members gathered around the long oak table, celebrating my pup's three-month milestone. Candles flickered against the stone walls, casting dancing shadows that should have felt cozy but instead seemed to mock the hollow ache in my chest. I moved between the kitchen and dining area, serving platters of roasted venison and fresh bread, my hands steady despite the exhaustion that had plagued me since childbirth. "Look at those little fingers," Beta Marcus's mate cooed, leaning over the bassinet where my son slept peacefully. "He's going to be strong like his father." Alexander sat at the head of the table, his Alpha presence commanding attention as usual. Savanna occupied the seat to his right—a position that should have been mine as Luna, but I'd grown used to serving rather than sitting. She wore a pristine white dress that emphasized her glowing skin and perfectly styled blonde hair, a stark contrast to my simple gray tunic that hung loose on my still-recovering frame. "The nose is definitely Alexander's," Elder Catherine observed, her weathered hands clasped in front of her. "But those eyes... they're quite unique." I set down a bowl of honey-glazed carrots, my wolf stirring uneasily within me.
