Chapter 2

Viona Pov

Opening my eyes, I was greeted by the doctor's smiling face. “The kidney transplant was a success.” A bright smile unknowingly graced my lips as I turned to the person on the other bed beside me.

He was tortured by cancer for a long time. My mate Nicolas seeing him breathing perfectly without any discomfort made everything worth it, or so I thought.

“Are you alright, Miss Viona?” The doctor's concerned voice made me feel satisfied with myself, but I still couldn't wait to see Nicolas' reaction when he found out I was the mysterious donor who gave her kidney without any payments. The thought made my head swell with pride. I asked the doctor why he wasn't awake yet, to which he chuckled at my puppy love reaction.

“He had suffered from cancer for a long time, his body is trying to adjust, it will take a few days, but he will be fine” My mood immediately dropped but the thought of us living together happily ever after like in the fairytale lifted my spirits again.

Days later

As usual, I wiped Nicolas' body with a wet towel before feeding him his breakfast, though he hasn't woken up yet, his condition and medical reports gave me hope that he would be fine.

“Urgh!...damn, these stupid werewolf super hearing abilities” I grunted my teeth in frustration grabbing my phone that has been buzzing for a long time now. My mood dropped on seeing the dialer.

“What is it?” My tone became cold as I spoke to the person at the other end of the line. As usual, I immediately turned down his offer to meet up like old times, after he confessed his feelings towards me despite knowing my position in the pack and being my best friend.

“I have something really important to tell you, please come meet me, I'll be at the cafe” He immediately disconnected the call, not giving me a chance to refuse. I sighed as I thought of all the people that had turned away from me and tried to convert me since Nicolas was hospitalized, but now I can smile and stand by his side.

A few hours later.

I met with my ex best friend Joey at a cafe in the outskirts of the city, it had always been our hangout spot since we were in highschool. But now to me it became the place I lost my best friend.

He immediately called out to me from the corner of the cafe where we usually sat to talk or gossip during our school days.

I went over to him and sat down before he would pull a chair for me which by now was out of habit.

“You wanted to talk?”

He stammered a little before going to the point.

“Flora is back from Chad” This caught me by surprise because she was not to return for another three years.

“When did she return?”

His response was swift “Two months ago” I felt like cold water was pouring on myself but there was nowhere to vent my frustrations.

“Why didn't you tell me sooner?”

“You didn't pick up my calls” I couldn't blame him because I did reject his calls multiple times, especially at the earlier stages of my surgery.

“I'll be leaving now, I have an appointment” With that said, I excused myself from his presence while pondering his words.

The outskirts of the city was mostly quiet with few cars and even fewer people, it is my favorite place to sort my thoughts.

Again thinking about it, before leaving I told no one of my intentions to donate my kidney to Nicolas and I have been gone for quite a few months now, should I call home?

I'm sure they'll be worried about where their Luna has been. Suddenly, a bright light headed in my direction. My mind went numb for a few seconds, before I realized, I was knocked out by some men in black and tossed into it felt like the trunk my vision went pitch black and I passed out.

Opening my eyes, I realized that I was in what seemed to be an abandoned factory which I recognized as it was abandoned after a work accident that happened years ago. And chained to a metal chair the chains were cold, thick and heavy properly knowing I was a werewolf I was given a shot of sedatives every three hours.

I was treated like this for days which turned into weeks then months. But everyday I wonder if Nicolas was okay, was he awake, and was he looking for me. And all this time I just prayed he burst through that door like in the movies and save me, but everyday was a disappointment.

The kidnapper only comes at noon to check on me and give me food and water not enough to satisfy my hunger but enough for me to not die, everything was planned out. And so was my escape, unknowingly to them. My system slowly got accustomed to the dose of sedatives I take in a day, of course I had to look weak and fall asleep after a while to avoid suspicions.

One afternoon, one of the kidnappers came to feed me after giving me a shot of sedative when I accidentally saw the newspaper in his hand, though it looks old the headlines attracted my attention.

When he was about to leave, I called his attention, luckily for me among the three kidnappers he was the nicest, so I had a little more confidence in making my request.

“Please may I see the paper” My voice came as a whisper, due to my fragile state. He looked at me suspiciously.

“Just the front page please” I begged, almost sobbing to which I think he took pity on me and threw it to the floor in front of me before walking away and of course I could hear the locks of the door.

Turning my attention where it was boldly written on the front page of the paper.

“True love shines fourth: CEO's first love returns from abroad and donates her kidney to her lover”.

“Young CEO Nicolas was diagnosed with cancer, after hospitalization, his wife Viona Nobel disappear with an outstanding sum of over 30 trillion dollars, leaving him to die but as fate would have it, Miss Flora his first love who was separated from him years ago return to Korea immediately after hearing his situation and donated her kidney to save his life.

News update: He is recovering well and would make a comeback to the business world soon.

I was shocked beyond words, and immediately regretted reading the news as hot tears unknowingly fell from my eyes. With my strength and anger, I pulled against chains until they all snapped freeing me with blood dripping from my hands and legs due to the months of restrictions.

My body ached severely, my bones were stiff and my chest hurt badly despite the pain I was so eager to tell Nicolas the truth

That I was the one who saved him, that I never left him, that I love him, but my body didn't listen, it kept moving slower and slower, knowing I couldn't get to the door at this rate, I decided to escape through the window, which for any rational being it was a bad Idea as the windows had broken glass poking out, but to me it was worth the risk.

The morning light filtered through the stained glass windows of the ceremonial chamber, casting rainbow patterns across the polished marble floor. I stood in the center of the room, my heart racing with anticipation as Elaine adjusted the silver circlet on my head. "You look beautiful, Clara," Elaine said, her fingers deftly weaving moonflowers into my hair. "The future Beta of Thornwood Pack won't know what hit him." I smiled, though something in her tone made me pause. "What's wrong? You sound like you're attending a funeral, not a mating ceremony." Elaine's hands stilled for just a moment. "It's nothing. Just... be careful with Blake. I've heard things about him that don't add up." "Like what?" I turned to face her, but she avoided my gaze.

My mate and I decided to undergo a pack ritual to conceive because of his low fertility. While I was at it, I replaced his essence with that of my true mate, Josiah Ruiz. Now, twenty-five years later, Bianca stands before me, tears streaming down her face, claiming to be Izabella’s mother: “My darling daughter, I’m your real mom!” ============================== Izabella and I had just returned from an international pack alliance meeting when we were met with a scene straight out of a rogue’s tale. The grand hall of the Ruiz Packhouse was bustling with distant relatives who never usually paid us visits—all gathered as if for a grand celebration. At the center of it all was Bianca Barnes, seated on the Alpha’s throne, putting on a melodramatic performance worthy of a rogue’s den. Drake Arnold, the rogue I had once allowed to pose as my mate, was doting on her, his concern etched on his face like a poorly written prophecy. I raised an eyebrow, parked my suitcase to the side, and leveled my gaze at him. “What’s the occasion, Drake?” I asked, my voice calm but laced with the authority of a Luna.

The silk sheets felt cold against my bare skin as I stirred awake, my body aching from last night's rough handling. Dawn hadn't broken yet, but I could feel Maxwell's presence beside me, his warmth radiating reluctantly through the space between us. I kept my breathing steady, hoping he'd think I was still asleep. If I could just slip away before he fully woke... "Hannah." His voice cut through the darkness, low and commanding. "You're awake." I opened my eyes to find him sitting up, his broad shoulders silhouetted against the dim light filtering through the curtains. Even in the darkness, I could see the cold indifference in his steel-gray eyes. "Yes, Alpha," I whispered, immediately sliding to the edge of the bed. My muscles protested as I moved, reminding me of how he'd pinned me down last night, how his hands had left bruises on my wrists. "You need to leave before the sun rises." Maxwell's tone was clipped, businesslike.
