My Alpha Helped His Mistress Murder My Family Novel Cover

My Alpha Helped His Mistress Murder My Family

The scent of burning sage and crushed pine needles hung thick in the evening air. I stood before the ancient stone altar, the heavy white silk of my traditional Luna ceremonial dress pooling around my bare feet. My hands trembled as I gripped the silver chalice. Today wasn't about my title as the Luna of the Shadowcrest Pack. Today, I was just Aviana—an orphaned daughter mourning the two greatest warriors the Silvermoon Pack had ever known. My parents. Tears hot and fast tracked down my cheeks as I looked out at the sea of faces in the twilight. The Shadowcrest elders stood in the front row, their heads bowed in deep respect. Beside them was Beta Ryan Cross, his expression tight with shared sorrow. And lingering near the back, an imposing shadow among the visiting dignitaries, was Lycan Prince Maximus Hamilton.

Chapter 4

The heavy oak door of my bedroom didn't just open; it splintered inward with a violent crash. Wood shards skittered across the hardwood floor. Kolson stood in the doorway, his chest heaving, his eyes entirely black. His wolf was in control, and he was furious. Behind his massive frame cowered Capri, clutching his shirt, her face buried in her hands as she unleashed loud, theatrical sobs.

"Are you out of your damn mind?" Kolson roared.

Before I could even open my mouth, the crushing, suffocating weight of his Alpha aura slammed into me. It hit me like a freight train. My spine collided hard with the plaster wall, pinning me in place. My inner wolf didn't cower or submit—she snarled, disgusted by him—but my human body was hopelessly trapped by his sheer supernatural force.

"You ruined her live stream! You humiliated her in front of millions of people!" Kolson snarled, stepping directly into my space.

"She killed my parents, Kolson!" I screamed back, fighting the invisible pressure crushing my chest. "She orchestrated the attack! She caused my miscarriage!"

"It was an accident! She was just making content!" he yelled, his voice echoing off the walls. The sheer absurdity of his words made my stomach churn. "Her career is everything to her, Aviana. You know how hard she's worked for this! You had no right to steal her phone!"

Then, the sobbing stopped.

Capri peeked out from behind his broad shoulder. The tears vanished instantly, replaced by a wicked, triumphant smirk. She stepped out of his shadow, walking right up to me while Kolson kept me helplessly pinned against the wall.

"You really think you can win against me?" Capri whispered. Her voice was no longer the sweet, chirpy tone she used for her followers. It was pure, dripping venom. She glanced at Kolson, but he didn't even flinch. He just stared blankly ahead, letting her do whatever she wanted. "I have him completely wrapped around my finger. I always have, and I always will."

She pulled a backup phone from her designer pocket, tapping the screen. "You ruined today's plan, but I have so many more scripts ready. Next week, we're doing the 'Terrified Luna' series. I'm going to lock you in the abandoned silver mines for a few hours. Your panic attacks will get me so many likes and brand deals. And Kolson?"

She patted his chest. "He's going to hand me the keys."

I stared at my fated mate, begging him with my eyes to deny it. To protect me. But Kolson just looked away, his jaw tight.

"It's just for a few hours, Aviana," he muttered. "It'll boost her engagement. We owe her that much."

My heart turned to absolute ice. The man standing before me wasn't my mate. He was a pathetic puppet, entirely lost to his toxic trauma bond.

I didn't pack a bag. I didn't leave a note. When midnight struck and the pack house finally fell silent, I slipped out the window of my quarters and vanished into the treeline.

The autumn air was freezing, but my blood ran hot with purpose. I moved swiftly in my human form, staying downwind of the border patrols. I knew the Shadowcrest security blind spots better than anyone. Every step away from the territory felt like shedding a heavy, suffocating skin.

I reached the neutral territory borders an hour later. The river roared over jagged rocks, splitting the land between Shadowcrest and the Lycan kingdom. Standing on the opposite bank, bathed in the silver moonlight, was a towering, imposing figure.

Lycan Prince Maximus Hamilton.

He didn't look surprised to see me. He stood with his hands deep in the pockets of his dark coat, his golden eyes glowing fiercely in the shadows. The raw, ancient power of his Lycan blood commanded the very air around him, yet it didn't suffocate me like Kolson's aura. It felt grounded. It felt like a shield.

I waded through the icy shallows, the freezing water biting at my calves, and stopped just a few feet from him on the rocky shore.

"You finally see him for what he is," Maximus said. His voice was a deep, resonant rumble that vibrated in my chest. There was no pity in his tone. Just cold, hard fact.

"My mate is dead to me," I said, my voice steady despite the shivering of my wet skin. "He belongs to her."

Maximus's lip curled in absolute disgust. "A weak Alpha ruled by a human app and a toxic childhood bond. He disgraces the title. And she desecrates our sacred laws for sport."

He took a slow step closer. He was massive, easily a foot taller than me, but I didn't back down. I met his glowing golden gaze head-on.

"I saw what you did on that live stream today, Aviana," Maximus murmured, a flicker of genuine respect softening his harsh, aristocratic features. "You have the spirit of a true warrior. Your parents would be proud."

The mention of my parents made my throat tighten, but I swallowed the grief. Now was not the time for tears. Now was the time for war.

"I need your help, Maximus," I said plainly, lifting my chin. "I have the files. The financial records. The mind-link transcripts. But I need power and influence to back my play. I want to destroy her, and I want him to watch his empire crumble."

Maximus extended a massive, scarred hand toward me. A dangerous, thrilling smile played on his lips, revealing the tips of his sharp canines.

"I've been waiting for you to ask, little wolf," he said softly. "Let's burn their sick world to the ground."

I reached out and placed my hand firmly in his. The alliance was sealed.

My coworkers at the pack’s healing center often accuse me of being too tightfisted. They say that to keep a high-ranking mate, I need to invest a little myself. But I just laugh it off and tell them, "As long as I’m generous to myself, that’s all that matters. Investing in yourself is the surest way to make any wolf fall at your feet." I don’t pretend to be virtuous. Thanks to my mother, an Omega who sacrificed her dignity to support our family after my father’s injury, and my father, a Delta warrior who fell into gambling after losing his leg to a rogue attack, I’ve seen all kinds of wolves and understand life’s harsher truths. I don’t resent them; instead, I’m grateful they’ve given me a clear view of the pack’s hierarchy and its brutal realities. When I decided to give Jaiden Diaz, a Gamma from the Silver Fang Pack, a chance, I made sure to tell him about my background, tears and all. Surprisingly, it didn’t drive him away; it only fueled his desire to protect me. I guess the allure of a fragile Omega, combined with my tough persona, is hard to resist. But, honestly, I don’t love him.

I collapsed to the kitchen floor, a scream tearing from my throat as searing pain ripped across my chest and arms. The knife I'd been using to chop vegetables clattered against the stone tiles. Blood—my blood—seeped through the fabric of my dress, creating dark crimson patterns that spread like spilled wine. "Lady Elaine!" Martha, one of the kitchen servants, rushed to my side, her eyes wide with horror. "What happened? Did you cut yourself?" I couldn't answer. The agony was too intense, stealing my breath and clouding my vision. This wasn't the first time, but it was certainly among the worst. Somewhere on a battlefield miles away, my husband Logan Parker was bleeding from fresh wounds—and through our cursed bond, I felt every slash and stab as if they were inflicted upon my own flesh. "Get help!" Martha called to another servant.

I woke with a gasp, my body suddenly on fire. A searing pain radiated from my chest, spreading through my limbs like molten silver. My hands clutched at the sheets as I struggled to breathe through the agony. *Madison, I'm back.* The voice—that familiar, fierce voice I hadn't heard in three years—growled through my mind. I froze, afraid to hope, afraid to believe. "Lyra?" I whispered into the darkness of my bedroom. "Is that really you?" *Who else would it be? I've been fighting to reach you for so long.* Tears sprang to my eyes as I felt my bones ache with a different kind of pain—the forgotten sensation of my wolf stirring beneath my skin. For three years, I'd been hollow, incomplete, a werewolf without her wolf. The doctors had called it trauma-induced suppression after the rogue attack.

At eight months pregnant, I was sent by my mate to the territory of Rowan Marshall, the infamous Alpha of the Marshall Pack. It was because Rowan had specifically asked for me. "The Alpha Marshall is known for his ruthlessness. If our Luna goes there, she might not return alive," the pack members whispered among themselves. But Theo, my mate, paid no attention. He calmly brought back his chosen mate, Liliana, who had been hidden in the outskirts of the city. With a cold expression, he said, "Don’t blame me for being heartless. It’s the Alpha’s command. No one dares to defy him." He even promised Liliana a legitimate place in our pack right in front of me. I didn’t cry or protest.

On the day before Thanksgiving, I pulled an all-nighter working on my artwork, finally catching some sleep by noon. Upon waking, I found out that Alpha Palmer’s parents and sister had arrived in Aspen. As the Alpha of the Gonzales Pack, Palmer’s family carried a weight of authority that I could never ignore, no matter how much I wanted to. I bought some pricey gifts and hurried to the restaurant, only to be greeted with icy glares and a table full of cold leftovers. Desperately, I looked to Palmer for support, but he simply sided with his parents in criticizing me. "Adeline," he said, his alpha tone cutting through the room like a knife, "what’s with that look? My parents say you’re lazy and waste money—what part of that is untrue? When elders offer advice, you should listen respectfully." I thought Palmer might be putting on a show for his parents, so I quickly apologized in a subdued voice, my head bowed slightly to show respect. However, later that night, I stumbled upon a drunken Palmer, passionately kissing his sister, Zoe. "Zoe, you’re the one I truly love.

Eight years into our mate bond, Gunnar had grown distant. He had appointed a young and beautiful Beta, Gemma Simmons. She didn’t care for the luxurious lifestyle of the Alpha’s inner circle; all she wanted was to wander the city streets with him, savoring the simplicity of life. She seemed too innocent for this world. It was clear Gunnar was enchanted by her. When I brought her up just once in conversation, he responded as if under attack, cautioning me, "Gemma and I are just packmates. Don’t use your tricks to ruin an innocent wolf’s life." At that moment, I finally understood—our bond was over. *** "Mom, did the mermaid princess and the prince live happily ever after once they defeated the wicked witch and got married?" Before bed, my pup Alaiya listened with her cheeks slightly puffed in frustration at the story’s abrupt conclusion. "Why do pack legends always end with the marking ceremony? They never say what happens afterward!" Holding the storybook, I hesitated slightly.
