Chapter 2

Meagia had no idea that the very blunderous decision of trusting her sister Rancel would prove to be extremely wrong. Rancel had been obsessed with Cinhard ever since she had seen him. Later on when she realised that he had been involved romantically with Meagia, which ignited envy and jealousy within her. Rancel wanted to destroy her stepsister whom she deemed a thorn in between her relationship with Cinhard.

Now that she had a chance finally to ensure that her plan would work out, Rancel was willing to do whatever was required to eradicate Meagia. Even though she was stunned herself when Meagia hugged her out of nowhere. Seeing that she was already at her vulnerable state, Rancel took her towards the bar acknowledging the situation.

“Rancel….do you know…” Meagia constantly murmured while crying, her sobs became a bit louder and irregular. While Rancel’s thoughts ran wild as she could not keep her happiness hidden because she had finally gotten some perfect moment. “I don’t feel good anymore, I just want to go.” Meagia kept on mumbling as she hugged her sister who patted her back completely ignoring her words.

As Rancel walked through the resplendent arcades with her sister, Meagia, the atmosphere was alive with the sounds of laughter, clinking glasses, and faint music. The arcades were adorned with ornate decorations and twinkling lights, casting a warm glow on the polished marble floors. Everyone was preparing for Clara’s bachelor party where they were invited as her friends.

‘This is it! This is the moment the moon goddess has blessed me with. I will make sure you never get Cinhard after this night, Meagia. I will destroy your already tripping reputation.’ She had decided what she was going to do now, Rancel’s hatred increased when she saw her in a vulnerable condition.

Rancel, a confident she-wolf and stylish young woman, led the way with a playful smirk on her lips, her dark hair cascading down her shoulders in loose waves. She was dressed in a chic black dress that hugged her curves, paired with high heels that clicked against the floor with each step.

Meagia, her elder sister, followed closely while crying, she had been looking a bit more bold in her blunt and fancy attire. She glanced around with wide eyes, taking in the grandeur of the bar as they walked through the arcades.

Rancel turned to Meagia with a mischievous grin. "Come on, sis, the night is young! Don’t let anything bother you, Meagia. Let's make some memories." She reached out and grabbed her hand, pulling her along as they weaved through the arcades. As they approached the bar, Rancel's eyes lit up with excitement of proceeding with her plan. She loved the vibrant energy of the place and the promise of having a fun night ahead for herself with drama. She released Meagia’s hand and turned to face her.

"Ready for some fun?" Rancel asked, her voice full of enthusiasm. “You should stop fussing over your boyfriend, he is not worth your time. I know you came here to meet him, the way you are all dressed up.” Meagia hesitated for a moment, her cheeks tinged with a hint of confusion. "I'm not sure, Rancel. I've never been to a bar before. You know I don’t drink."

Rancel grinned reassuringly. "Don't worry, sis. I will take care of you. Don’t get stressed about anything, I am assuming you had some fight with him.” She looped her arm through Meagia’s, guiding her towards the entrance of the bar. For Rancel it was not hard for her to assume that Meagia must have come to meet Cinhard.

As they stepped inside, the lively ambiance enveloped them. The bar was bustling with activity, with people chatting, bartenders mixing drinks, and a live band playing upbeat tunes in the background. Rancel and Meagia found a cosy corner booth and settled in, while the guests still hadn’t come. Rancel ordered their drinks with confidence, while Meagia looked around in awe, taking in the sights and sounds of the bar.

Meagia’s sobbing had died down and she glanced around only to see the row of bottles, adorned with golden labels and topped with glistening stoppers, lined the back of the bar. The bottles stood tall and proud, casting a rich and alluring display which could only be afforded by the elites. The assortment of spirits ranged from amber-hued whiskeys to crystal-clear gins, promising a world of flavours and delights.

Since Meagia and Rancel were the daughters of the beta and could afford luxury, they knew they could buy those whole night. Even though Rancel was the step sister born from the second wife, Rancel was a she-wolf unlike Meagia who possessed no powers. She could not hear her wolf at the age of 18 while Rancel got attention when she shifted successfully.

As the night progressed, Rancel introduced Meagia to some of her friends who had come for the party. And they all bonded over shared stories and laughter, for a while Meagia gradually relaxed, her initial apprehension melting away in the spur of the moment. ‘Just a bit more, Meagia. I just have to get you drunk a bit more and then I will destroy you.’ Rancel signalled to some bartender with a grin as she went to fetch a spiked drink for her.

Rancel and Meagia danced together, twirling and laughing, as the band played a catchy tune. They raised their glasses in a toast, celebrating their sisterly bond and the joy of the evening. As the night drew to a close and Meagia had spent the whole pre- hours of the bachelor’s party with her sister in getting drunk.

Rancel and Meagia made their way back through the arcades, arm in arm. Meagia had a smile on her face, and her eyes sparkled with newfound comfort. "Thank you for showing me such a wonderful time, Rancel," Meagia said, her voice filled with gratitude. “I didn’t know what to do after I hearing Cinhard’s rejection. Thank you for being there.”

Unbeknownst to her that she just gave away her weakness to Rancel, who became happy that Cinhard finally understood being with a wolfless girl he would become a laughingstock. Rancel smiled warmly at her sister. "Anytime, sis. I'm always here for you. Tonight was just the beginning of your notoriously known adventurous night."

With that grin they walked into the corridor when Meagia spoke once again as she rubbed her neck. “Why do I suddenly feel hot? It is uncomfortable, my head is spinning too.” Meagia informed her while Rancel smirked and took her towards a room. “Let me send you to your room.” Rancel threw her over the door which made a loud thud sound.

“Hope to never see you again, sister!” Rancel grinned and turned around to take her leave. While Meagia stood there swaying when the door opened and a prowl sound resonated in the arcade. Rancel gave a lopsided expression as she looked back and confirmed that maybe some random male wolf was now going to go down on Meagia and ruin her reputation.

The dawn light filtered through the heavy curtains of my father's chamber, casting long shadows across his gaunt face. Beta Ashford, once the strongest wolf in Silvermoon Pack, now lay withered against silk pillows, his breathing labored. The rare illness consuming him had stolen his vigor, leaving behind only a shell of the man who had raised me. "Victoria," he whispered, his voice barely audible. "Come closer, daughter." I knelt beside his bed, taking his frail hand in mine. His skin felt like parchment, thin and cool to the touch. "Father, please rest. The healer said—" "The healer cannot save me." His amber eyes, though clouded with pain, fixed on mine with startling clarity. "My time grows short, Victoria. Before I join the Moon Goddess, I must see you secured." My chest tightened.

The silver light of the full moon bathed the ceremonial grounds in an ethereal glow, but I felt nothing but ice in my veins as I watched my mate—my Ethan—present my mother's moonstone pendant to her. Vanessa Collins stood there in her flowing white dress, looking every bit the innocent she-wolf she pretended to be. Her honey-colored hair caught the moonlight as she tilted her head, examining the pendant with those calculating green eyes. My heart clenched as I recognized the delicate silver chain, the way the moonstone caught the light just as it had when my mother wore it. "Alpha Grant, this is... extraordinary," Vanessa's voice carried across the gathering, sweet as poisoned honey. "But I couldn't possibly accept such a valuable gift." I stood frozen on the ceremonial platform, my designated place as Luna feeling more like a cage with each passing second. The other pack members shifted uncomfortably around us—I could smell their unease mixing with the night air. Rebecca, my Beta and closest friend, tensed beside me, her hand twitching as if she wanted to reach for me but didn't dare. Ethan's massive frame dominated the space between us, his back to me as he faced Vanessa.

With just a week left until the mating ceremony, Aiden, my Alpha and mate, shaved off all my long hair while I was sleeping. That evening, Zaria, the Gamma from a rival pack, showed up with her alluring curls, offering an apology. "I’m so sorry, Mazie," she said, her voice dripping with false sincerity. "I was joking with Aiden, telling him I shaved my head to become a nun. I never thought he’d try to comfort me by not only shaving his own head but also yours." Aiden probably expected a big reaction from me, so he quickly moved to protect her, his Alpha tone commanding the room. "It was all my idea. Zaria had nothing to do with it, so don’t blame her," he insisted, his voice firm yet dismissive. "Besides, hair grows back. We can just wear wigs for the ceremony, don’t you think?" What Aiden didn’t know was that I no longer intended to complete the mating bond. My newfound parents, a gentle Omega and a supportive Beta from my new pack in France, had reached out to me, offering a place in their pack.

The rain didn’t just fall; it felt like the sky was trying to crush me. I stood outside the heavy oak doors of the Blackwood Pack House, water streaming down my face, mixing with the heat of my humiliation. In my hands, the velvet box containing a custom-engraved watch—a gift for the tenth anniversary of the day Adrian and I first met—was now a sodden, pathetic lump. “I’m sorry, Selene,” the enforcer at the door muttered, not meeting my eyes. He was a Delta I had known since we were pups, but his stance was unyielding. “Alpha Adrian’s orders. No visitors.” “I’m not a visitor, Mark,” I said, my voice trembling against the thunder rolling overhead. “I’m the Gamma’s daughter. I’m his…” *His mate.* The words died in my throat. We hadn’t completed the ceremony.
