Chapter 7

CHAYSE POV

"It's the Full Moon," I muttered back as he leaves, needing to part from me for today. When he left, I flipped back down on the bed, a huge breath escaping from my lips from holding it in too long.

I pushed my shirt down and gazed up at the ceiling for a while before moving to my phone and looking at Jonas's contact. I shook my head slightly and moved down to my dad's contact. I knew he probably wouldn't see my text, but I would send it anyway.

Hey, I love you.

I smiled at my phone and left it on the nightstand, changing into some different clothes. When I came out of the bathroom, Caroline was there, ready to take me somewhere new today.

"Xander called and said I needed to take you away from him before he loses it," she shrugged.

I rolled my eyes, and she laughed, taking my hand forcefully and pulling me down the stairs and out the front door, heading into town.

"So, I heard the Beta was taking over for a couple of days while Alpha is gone. Why aren't you in command?" Caroline asks, taking a sip of her soda and then looking at me with curious eyes.

"We're going to my old pack to discuss some problems they're having, and Xander doesn't want it spreading to our pack. I don't know what it is, but it has to be serious if Xander himself is going down to check it out personally," I explained.

"If you didn't notice, I am going as well."

Caroline nodded. "Well, enough serious talk, let's go shopping!" she yelled, striding down the street like a model.

"More dresses for us!" Oh, why does my closest friend here have to love shopping so much?

She pulled me directly into an expensive store with hundreds to thousands of dollars per dress. Of course, she wasn't shopping for herself; she just wanted to be the stylist.

She pulled out four dresses and decided to try each of them on me. I hated dresses. Just not my type of clothing at all. When training, I wore shorts or running leggings with a plain shirt.

That's my style. Unfortunately, Caroline was raised to know that dresses showed power and wealth. That was her style.

First, she pulled out the short, cute, soft dresses, or in other words, the ones that look like t-shirts. The t-shirt dress was completely gray and meant to be worn with jewelry. It was super comfy and about fifty dollars.

Considering that Xander is super rich and the Luna gets anything she wants from any shop, it would be fair to pay for. Then she brought out something a tiny bit more expensive.

It went up to my neck and was a creamy color. It was a short dress, also meant to be worn with some bracelets, and the price seemed reasonable enough to pay for. Only ten dollars more than the previous dress.

But after that dress, women came in to help with putting on the dresses. The third dress was white with lace all over. To me, it was more of a wedding dress than the evening dress they claimed it to be.

It had a tight silver band around the waist, giving me a curvy and taller look. The price was way too much to even say, so I decided not to even think about it and smile.

This will probably be the only dress over a thousand dollars I will ever put on. Thankfully, after I took off that dress, the women went away, and Caroline brought out the last one.

This one was a pale pink color with diamonds encrusting the top. Yeah, this one was also another expensive dress over a thousand dollars.

I groaned when I saw it, and Caroline chuckled, shoving it in my hands and forcing me to try it on. I came out and looked over myself in the mirror, finding all the dresses fine, even though I liked the first two the most. I groaned again when Caroline smirked.

"What now?"

"Well, these are the dresses Xander got for you," she replied. I nearly fainted.

"He also got you some new sports clothes, and those are being delivered when you two are at the Amber Sky Pack. Don't tell him I told you early." I gasped and took off the dress and changed back into my normal clothes, my jaw still gaping at her statements.

All these dresses were already owned by me? Because Xander already paid for them in advance!?!?

Thank the Lord I am not a shopping freak like Caroline. The gym clothes excited me more, but I was happy and grateful that he thought of me.

Then my heart tugged at the thought of my mate in his office, keeping his distance for today. I wanted to see him, but I would see him later. Right now was time to spend with my new best friend, Caroline.

Once you've taken the remedy, scales will appear on your body when it shows up." Back in the city, my boyfriend Kendrick couldn't wait to get close. The moment he hugged me, an unbearable itch spread across my back. I reached around to scratch and felt several hard scales. The cold, slimy sensation sent a shiver down my spine, like an electric shock. Kendrick teased, "How come you're so sensitive after just one holiday?" I couldn’t believe it and ran my fingers over the spot several times, only to confirm it wasn't an illusion. Beneath those scales, it felt as if countless tiny bugs were sucking and wriggling. The deep, relentless itch made my nails dig painfully into my skin. At the same time, an uncontrollable chill crept through my body.

She looked up with that bright smile she always wore when Dad came home, flour dusting her cheek. But her expression froze when she saw him. Dad wasn't alone. A woman with long black hair stepped through our doorway, her hand resting possessively on a very pregnant belly. The moment I laid eyes on her, my spiritual sight flared to life without warning. Dark auras swirled around her head like angry storm clouds, so thick and menacing that I had to grip the kitchen counter to steady myself.
Mate's Betrayal in the Ceremony Novel Cover

"I'm sorry, Elizabeth. I can't make it to the ceremony tonight." Drew's voice carried through the phone with that same distant tone I'd been hearing more often lately. My hand instinctively moved to my swollen belly, where our pup kicked restlessly as if sensing my disappointment. "But Drew, this is the Thanksgiving Luna wellness ceremony. It's tradition for expectant mothers to attend with their mates." I tried to keep the hurt from my voice, but my wolf whimpered softly in the back of my mind. Eight months pregnant, and I'd been looking forward to this sacred blessing for weeks. "Pack business came up suddenly. You understand how these things work, Liz. You're strong enough to handle it alone." There was something in his scent when he'd kissed me goodbye this morning—something unfamiliar that made my wolf's hackles rise. But I'd dismissed it as pregnancy hormones making me oversensitive.
