Chapter 1

Aria's Pov

“Adrian please” I gasped, blood trickling down my legs to my feet, a sharp pain hit me below my abdomen, I clutched my stomach tightly, dread filling me.

“What do you want, woman” he snorted dismissively, not giving me so much as a glance, instead he was hand feeding his supposed sister, Vanessa Lane.

“Our baby” I cried out, my legs growing numb from the pain, I could barely stand now. I held the railing tightly, “I just need the keys, please” I pleaded.

He gave me a frustrated look, “can't you see I'm trying to feed Nessa? Must you ruin the atmosphere with your presence?”

“But…”

“But what? You think I don't know?” His voice turned cold, he stood, closing the distance between us.

“Know what?”

“You're not going to save any bastard's child with my car, in fact you're not leaving this house” he gripped my arm harshly

My heart sank, “what are you talking about?” I asked, confused.

“Don't worry Ria, Ady just wants to protect the family image, imagine giving birth to a child of unknown origin, have you thought of his stand as Alpha?” Vanessa said in a fake sugary voice

I ignored her, my body was getting weaker with each passing minute, “Adrian, I clutched onto him tightly, I don't need the car keys, I'll walk to the hospital, just open the doors, please” I felt tears trickling down my eyes, as I pleaded, looking for even an atom of the man I had mated.

He sneered, “No Luna of mine will give birth to a bastard pups, come here” he dragged me roughly

Immediately my hand left the railings I held, my knees numbed instantly, I almost fell to the ground if not for his hold on me.

“Aria, we need to get to a doctor now, I can't protect them much longer” Luna, my wolf said. She had been shielding our pups, her own energy was already drained.

“Adrian, please, you promised to protect me, they're your pups, I'm your mate”

“Shut up,” he growled, instantly I was spent sprawling with a slap.

I fell face flat, my stomach falling directly on the staircase, bile rose through the back of my throat.

“Adrian, ahh” I screamed, pain engulfed me. I held onto my abdomen even tighter, “babies, I'll save you, just hold on” I whispered.

Biting down harshly on my tongue, to fight of the wave of dizziness that hit, I struggled to my feet, “Luna, hold on. I'll soon get help”

“Aria” she called weakly, I could tell she was on her last toes

“Get up” Adrian snarled, pulling me by my arms and back to my feet.

I struggled weakly against his hold, but who was I kidding, he barely noticed. Instead he dragged my already numb body to a dark corner of our mansion, one specially made for me.

“Stay in here till you learn your place, to think you'd dare to ruin Nessa’s mood” he threw me inside

I fell to the ground with a loud thud, “reflect on your mistakes, whore” he spat and shut the door before I could react.

“No, no, no, Adrian please” I cried out loudly, my fingers holding onto my stomach, unable to stand, I dragged my weak body to the door, clawing desperately at it.

All that met me was the sound of his receding footsteps, and soon all I could hear was the sound of my own breathe

It was probably of no use, but I still tried, two times in this dark room and I had already realized that there was no escape from in here, it was only an empty space with only four walls and an air vent.

Wait, the vent, instantly I changed my focus to it, I dragged my body closer to it, “Luna, I need your help now” I pleaded, “let's do anything we can”

She didn't respond but I felt her silent agreement, we would do anything to save our pups. Mustering the strength and with a new found determination, I pulled out the cage covering the vent.

Luckily it came out easily, my lips curled slightly, I inhaled shakily, the tile beneath me was now slippery and it wasn't from sweat.

The space was small, but somehow I was able to curl my body into it, the walls, pressed down on my bulging stomach, I spat a mouthful of my blood, my chest tightening.

“Keep going,” Luna said through gritted teeth,

Her words reminded me of why I was fighting in the first place, why I couldn't die now, slowly I began clawing my way through the tiny space, my blood soaked body and clothes made it slippery and easier.

Soon I saw light and with a thud, I fell out directly outside the gate onto the snow, the wind howled loudly, the white snow was instantly painted crimson, blood pooled at my feet.

I could barely move my body now, I lay on the snow, catching my breathe, my teeth chattering from the cold.

“Aria,” Luna called, I could hear the warning in her voice.

Determined to survive, I stood, dragging my bare feet across the snow, ignoring the tingling sensation I felt, ironically Adrian had brought me to this deserted resort to relax until I gave birth.

No life existed within miles, but it was better than staying there and waiting for death, Vanessa arrived a day after we got here and everything went south from then.

She had convinced Adrian to confiscate my phone and everything that connected me to the outside world, I smiled mockingly, to think another woman had such control over my own mate.

And they were siblings, a wave of disgust suddenly washed over me.

Lost in thoughts, I didn't notice the bright light speeding towards me, suddenly I couldn't feel my body until I landed on the floor, my brain went blank, still trying to process what just happened.

Did I just get hit by something? Red clouded my vision, struggling to lift my head, I heard the sound of a door opening, followed by a very familiar pair of heels.

The silver tray trembled in my hands as I approached Nathan's office. Three years as Luna of the Silvermoon Pack had taught me the exact way he preferred his afternoon tea—one spoon of honey, a splash of milk, and precisely three minutes of steeping time. Today I'd added fresh mint leaves from the garden, hoping to ease his tension after the morning's territory negotiations. I balanced the tray carefully, mindful not to spill the steaming liquid onto the documents I'd organized for him. Nathan had been increasingly distant lately, spending long hours with his new secretary. A rogue she-wolf named Rebecca Hayes who'd joined our pack barely two months ago. 'It's just work,' I'd told myself repeatedly. 'He's Alpha. The pack needs him.' My wolf, Lyra, whined softly in my mind. *Something's wrong.

I stared at the two pink lines on the pregnancy test, my hands trembling so badly I nearly dropped it into the chipped sink of the Omega quarters. Three years. Three years of stolen moments in Sebastian's office after midnight, of whispered promises in the dark, of believing that love could somehow bridge the gap between an Alpha heir and a wolfless Omega like me. Now I had proof that our connection was real. Undeniable. I pressed my palm against my still-flat stomach, a nervous smile tugging at my lips. This changed everything. Sebastian would have to acknowledge me now. He'd defy his father, Marcus Stone, and claim me as his true mate. We'd finally stop hiding.

The morning sun filtered through the tall windows of the pack house as I settled into my office, the familiar weight of Luna responsibilities grounding me in routine. Ten years of leading the Silvermoon Pack alongside Augustus had taught me to find solace in the predictable rhythm of territorial reports and pack disputes. I spread the latest boundary assessments across my mahogany desk, noting the increased rogue activity near our eastern borders. The warriors' reports required my attention, but first, I needed to handle the domestic squabble between the Morrison twins over hunting territory assignments. Such petty conflicts seemed insignificant compared to the larger threats we faced, yet maintaining pack harmony meant addressing every grievance with equal gravity. "Luna Harper," Beta Ryan Mitchell knocked softly before entering. "The Morrison situation has escalated. They're refusing to speak to each other, and it's affecting their patrol efficiency." I nodded, already formulating a solution. "Schedule separate meetings with each of them this afternoon. Sometimes siblings need space to air their grievances before they can find common ground." Ryan's expression relaxed.

I had been waiting eight years for tonight. That sounds dramatic. Maybe it is. But when you spend eight years being the she-wolf who stays — who manages the pack calendar, smooths the territorial disputes, absorbs every small crisis before it reaches the Alpha's desk — you stop noticing the waiting. It becomes the shape of your days. You tell yourself that tonight is different. Tonight, the waiting ends. The ceremonial hall smelled of white cedar and melted wax. Someone had woven moonflowers through the archway above the altar — my idea, actually, though I hadn't told anyone that. The moonstone pendant sat in its velvet box at the center of the table, catching the candlelight.

The afternoon sun glinted off the polished storefronts lining Silver Moon Pack's luxury district, but I barely noticed the sparkle. As Luna, I'd walked these streets a hundred times, smiling at merchants and nodding to pack members. Today felt different. "The new boutique has excellent craftsmanship," Ava said beside me, her voice carrying that refined elegance that made everyone respect her. Even after stepping down as Luna, the Dowager Luna commanded more authority than most Alphas I'd met. "The jeweler mentioned they're preparing pieces for the Pack Run ceremony." I touched my chest absently, where a dull ache had been growing for weeks. The mate bond with Adriel used to feel warm, like sunlight on my skin. Lately, it felt like touching cold metal. "That's wonderful," I managed, forcing brightness into my tone. "Adriel said the Moonstone Pendant is being polished for the occasion.

The security room hummed with the low drone of equipment as I leaned closer to the monitor, my eyes burning from hours of reviewing footage. The clock on the wall read 2:17 AM. Ryan had insisted I learn every aspect of pack management, and tonight's task was reviewing border patrol recordings—a tedious job that usually yielded nothing but deer crossings and the occasional lost hiker. My hand froze mid-reach for my herbal tea—the bitter concoction Ryan preferred—when a familiar silhouette appeared on the grainy night-vision screen. The mug trembled in my grip as I recognized my mate's broad shoulders, his distinctive stance. "That can't be right," I whispered to myself, quickly checking the timestamp. This footage was from last night—when Ryan had claimed to be conducting emergency territory negotiations with the Silver Creek Pack. I leaned forward, my heart thundering against my ribs as another figure entered the frame. Female. Slender.
